Selection criteria: Selection of all prospective students is based on a computerised Potential Assessment. Candidates who are successful in this, will be invited for interviews. General knowledge and language profi ciency are extremely important in journalism and special emphasis will therefore be placed on these attributes during selection. Prospective students are advised to prepare themselves accordingly by, for example, reading books on journalism and the political system in South Africa, reading newspapers regularly, and consulting professional journalists on the nature and requirements of the profession. All prospective students should contact the Department of Journalism or the University by telephone by August of the year preceding the year of proposed study to make arrangements for selection. c. Recommended subject(s): History and Geography at Higher Grade. d. Minimum duration: Three years. e. Presentation: First two years: day classes. However, the Head of the Department may, due to previous subject selections, make other proposals and arrangements regarding the latter. Students who interrupt their studies will only be allowed to resume their studies if the interruption is not longer than is acceptable to the Head of the Department.
