7 Purpose Assess and coordinate response to significant campus situations that require intervention Assist restoration to normal functioning Suggest future preventative measures

8 Types of Events Serious student situations and campus threats or emergencies that directly affect the well-being of students and the campus community

9 When is a Situation a CIRT? Seriously disruptive behavior Disruptive to the maintenance of the academic environment Destructive to university property Constitutes a threat to the well being of the student or others

10 Workplace Violence Policy for K-State Faculty and Staff Student situation on campus Campus Environmental Safety & Emergency Management Division of Human Resources Threat Management Committee Dean of Students, OSL, or KSU Police notified of a student crisis and alerts the CIRT Chair Emergency Management Committee(s) If student employee, CIRT chair part of the Threat Management Committee Seriously disruptive CIRT chair gathers incident info Not seriously disruptive CIRT chairperson is contacted to help address the human services issues and effect of the emergency or disaster Assembles a CIRT meeting Refers to Office of Student Life for disposition

31 FERPA Facts FERPA allows for communication with parents when health or safety of their student is threatened (a): An educational agency or institution may disclose personally identifiable information from an education record to appropriate parties, including parents of an eligible student, in connection with an emergency if knowledge of the information is necessary to protect the health or safety of the student or other individuals.
