1 GreenScreen Certified Practitioner Program Detailed Program Description Last Updated January 2014
2 GreenScreen for Safer Chemicals (GreenScreen ) is a method for chemical hazard assessment and benchmarking that supports the identification of chemicals of concern and safer alternatives. It was developed by the non profit organization Clean Production Action (CPA), to help identify chemicals for use in materials and products that are safe and healthy throughout their life cycles. The Certified Practitioner Program is designed for individuals who are interested in receiving in depth training and developing expertise in the GreenScreen method. This document will assist you in gaining understanding of the breadth and scope of the program, the time commitment involved to achieve certification, the benefits to you and your organization and the steps for certification renewal. 2

Advanced Topics Classwork: Four three hour Advanced Topics classes, held every four six weeks Live, web based training format using GoToMeeting, with screen sharing and voice conferencing Classes are recorded and are made available if a participant has a critical conflict 1 2. The Practicum: Each participant will perform two full GreenScreen assessments Practicum includes coaching and question/answer opportunities from CPA toxicologist and trainers Additional live web based work sessions are provided The expected time commitment to complete the final GreenScreen assessments is 5 10 hours per week or hours per chemical 1 At the instructor s discretion, up to two classes may be attended via recording if critical schedule conflicts arise. Additional requirements will apply. 6
7 ADVANCED TOPICS DETAILS Class # Class Name Topics Introduction to Certified Practitioner Program GreenScreen Online Resources 1 Introduction and Resources Process for Assessing & Classifying Hazards Data Sources, Preferences and Interpretation Hazard Assessment Tips Group I Human Health Review & Discussion of Homework 2 Advanced Hazard Assessment and Estimation Hazard Assessment Tips Group II Human Health Considering Outlier Data Using Estimation to Fill Missing Data 3 Advanced Hazard Assessment and Environmental Transformation Products Review & Discussion of Homework Hazard Assessment Tips Environmental Toxicity, Fate and Physical Hazards Environmental Transformation Products 4 Advanced Benchmarking Review & Discussion of Homework Hazard Assessment Special Cases: Inorganic Chemicals, Polymers Advanced Benchmarking Benchmarking Special Cases: Inorganic Chemicals, Mixtures, Polymers 7
8 PRACTICUM DETAILS Each participant will perform two full GreenScreen assessments as his or her practicum requirement. This is the most time consuming part of the course, and requires a serious time commitment. Assessment #1: Practicum assignments for the first GreenScreen assessment will correspond to the relevant hazard endpoints discussed in the prior class. For example, the homework assigned after Class #1, which discusses Group I Human Health endpoints, will require participants to classify hazards for the Group I Human Health endpoints for their first chemical. Homework for the first assessment will be reviewed by CPA toxicologists between classes and feedback will be provided to participants prior to the next class. In addition, because the classes are live, participants may ask questions related to the prior class and/or to their chemical during the classes. Assessment #2: Participants will independently perform a second GreenScreen assessment after all formal classes are complete; however, they can submit questions to CPA staff at any time. In addition, there will be two live working sessions scheduled during the practicum period during which CPA staff will be available to answer participant questions. Draft assessments completed as part of the practicum requirement are evaluated using the GreenScreen Verification Program approach. Participants are required to submit revised assessments based on that evaluation. 8
9 CERTIFICATION Requirements: Successfully complete all Advanced Topics classes and practicum Pass final exam (written and/or verbal) Sign CPA GreenScreen Certification Agreement (License Agreement) Please note that participation in the Certified Practitioner Program does not ensure participant certification. Participants must show an acceptable level of competency using the GreenScreen method. CPA reserves the right to deny certification to those who do not achieve desired competency. Upon Completion of Certification, GreenScreen Certified Practitioners May: Provide GreenScreen assessments at their own organizations but they are not licensed to provide assessments or any other GreenScreen services for other organizations Keep their certification status even if they change organizations. Certification is assigned to an individual, not to an organization Submit GreenScreen assessments for verification through the GreenScreen Verification Program Identify themselves publicly as GreenScreen Certified Practitioners Audit future online Advanced Topics classes (if space allows, and at instructor discretion) The names and organizational affiliations of GreenScreen Certified Practitioners will be posted and maintained on the CPA website. 9
10 PRICING AND PROGRAM OPTIONS Option I Certification Track: This includes both the Advanced Topics Classwork and the practicum. Both are required for Certification. Advanced Topics Classes $2500 Practicum $3000 Total $5500 Option II Advanced Topics Audit Only: Advance Topics Classes $2500 Total $

Additional class fees may apply. Frequency, requirements and fees may be revised at any time. 11
