There are two TWI classes in grades kindergarten through 3rd and then one class in grades 4th through 6th. In the TWI classes, students not only learn to become biliterate and bilingual, but they also gain a comprehensive understanding of both languages cultures and history. Our district, Livingston Union School District, has a full dual language program at three elementary schools, Campus Park, Selma Herndon, Yamato Colony and at the middle school, Livingston Middle School. DMS provides a continuation of the TWI program at Osborn Elementary School. Our Immersion students attend 2 periods of English Language Arts, 1 period of Spanish Language Arts and 1 period of History taught in Spanish. Math, Science and PE are taught in English. Our goal is to prepare our students for the rigor of advance Spanish classes in high school. The Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Program's goal at Ewing Elementary is to prepare students to become bilingual and biliterate, succeed academically, and develop positive cross cultural relations. Two-Way Immersion English speaking students become proficient in Spanish and Spanish speaking students become proficient in English while maintaining their native language. 4 P a g e

Students will develop high levels of proficiency in their first language. This goal means that native English speakers will develop high levels of listening, speaking, reading, and writing ability in Englihs and English language learners will develop these same abilities in their native language (e.g, Spanish). Santa Fe Elementary Dual Language Academy is a twoway immersion school within the Porterville Unified School District. Santa Fe s Two Way Language Immersion program offers students the unique and exciting opportunity to read, write, and communicate naturally in both Spanish and English. Dual immersion produces bilingual, biliterate students, by immersing them in a second language, when their young minds have the greatest aptitude for language development. Sunset Two Way Immersion Charter School is one of three Dual Immersion schools in Fresno Unified. Sunset serves students in grades Pre K 8th and is solely a Two Way School with no English only classrooms. Our program is a model that serves children from eight neighboring school districts that include Carruthers, Central, Clovis, Kerman, Riverdale, Sanger, Selma, and Washington Union. The Dual Immersion Program, provides an immersion model for English- speaking students and a bilingual model for Spanish-speaking students. The goal of the program is to promote fluency and comprehension in both Spanish and English for all participating students. Our program is committed to develop literacy in both languages. You can also look up more information about two-way and/or dual language immersion programs at Directory of Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Programs in the U.S. The Central Valley Dual Language Consortium 5 P a g e

8 Keynote Speaker Martin Mares Ivy League Project Martin Mares is the Chief Executive Officer and President of the Ivy League Leadership Project. He has been in education for over 25 years serving as a teacher, administrator, mentor, and advisor. He is passionate about student empowerment and teaching students the importance of leadership skills during monthly Saturday seminars. He believes that it is imperative that students develop a Sense of Possibility. He has developed Ivy League Projects in California, Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico. A total of over 128 students from economically challenged communities have been accepted to east coast universities during the past 19 years. Many have been accepted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, and countless hundreds accepted to West Coast universities. Martin is writing his book entitled From Grape Vines to Ivy Leagues. Martin is married to Sulema Mares. They have three children named Andres, Jacqueline, and Izabela. I have established Ivy League Project U.S.A. partnerships with over 20 schools districts in California, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. My goal is to empower students, parents, educators, and community members in California to develop a mindset that students from rural social economical challenged communities can apply and be accepted to the most selective schools in America. My love for students has allowed me to help over 128 high school students from the Central California area be accepted to selective schools such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Wellesley, Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia, Mount Holyoke, Stanford, Penn, and Georgetown University. 8 P a g e
