Presentation Content Viruses & Malware Choosing Passwords Spam & Junk Scams with typical examples
Viruses & Malware Protection - good and up to date anti-virus, regular scans Subscription: McAfee, Norton, Kapersky Free: AVG, Avira download from: Also Free - Microsoft Security Essentials - download from: GB/windows/products/security-essentials
Viruses & Malware ONLY ONE ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM AT A TIME Use a firewall - Windows or Zonealarm (note also has anti-virus) Update daily and scan regularly
Viruses & Malware For anti-malware or spyware use free malwarebytes from:
Choosing Passwords Most passwords have to be: At least 6 or 7 characters Contain at least one number Contain at least one capital letter
Choosing Passwords Choose two passwords for everything: One password for unimportant stuff (checking postcodes, rail timetables etc) One password for important stuff (banks, buying stuff)
Choosing Passwords Select two 7 character words and a number for these two passwords such as: Dustbin9 and England9 (note the first capital letters) Add addition numbers if required such as England91
Choosing Passwords Write down where you use these passwords using a code such as: Post Code Finder: Secondary (meaning Dustbin9) LloydsTSB: Primary (meaning England9) Barclays (who want 9 characters): Primary1 (meaning England91)
Spam & Junk Spam is hard to stop but you can block individual senders using rules in your system. You can also set up rules to block messages containing individual words such as Viagra although the spammers get round this by varying the spelling such as V1agra. Check your Spam or Junk box regularly for messages junked in error.
Spam & Junk Junk mail is easier to eliminate as most responsible senders offer you the option to unsubscribe at the bottom of their messages:

We ve been to the embassy and the Police here but they re not helping issues at all and our flight leaves in less than 3hrs from now but we re having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won t let us leave until we settle the bills. Am freaked out at the moment.
