Identify potential problems before they occur, so that riskhandling activities may be planned and invoked as needed across the life of the product or project to mitigate adverse impacts on achieving objectives. Prepare for Risk Management (SG 1) Risk Repository Mitigate Risks (SG 3) Identify and Analyze Risks (SG 2) wibas IT Maturity Services GmbH
Preparation for risk management is conducted. Prepare for Risk Management (SG 1) Determine Risk Sources and Categories (SP 1.1) Define Risk Parameters (SP 1.2) Establish a Risk Management Strategy (SP 1.3) Risk Repository wibas IT Maturity Services GmbH
Risks are identified and analyzed to determine their relative importance. Identify and Analyze Risks (SG 2) Identify Risks (SP 2.1) Evaluate, Categorize, and Prioritize Risks (SP 2.2) Risk Repository wibas IT Maturity Services GmbH
Risks are handled and mitigated, where appropriate, to reduce adverse impacts on achieving objectives. Mitigate Risks (SG 3) Develop Risk Mitigation Plans (SP 3.1) Implements Risk Mitigation Plans (SP 3.2) Risk Repository wibas IT Maturity Services GmbH
Risk Management is the basis for a stable project. Why do we do it? Ensure that risk are lowered with risk mitigation strategies Ensure that risks do not take the project unprepared and by surprise Help to steer the project around the risks Advice and Guidance Don t be ashamed of risks only risks that occur are bad Regularly update risks and monitor risk mitigation actions Plan for mitigation actions Assign mitigiation strategies to persons wibas IT Maturity Services GmbH
The project manager is responsible for ensuring risk management. The whole team will support this activity. Risk Management is done throughout the project. Who makes it? RUP: Project Manager The Project Manager plans, manages and allocates resources, shapes priorities, coordinates interactions with customers and users, and keeps the project team focused Team Members Must support the project manager in risk analysis and in carrying out the mitigations strategies When will we do it? At the beginning of the project Whenever a risk is identified Regularly at team meetings wibas IT Maturity Services GmbH
Exercise Write the risk list Task and Results: organize team and download template min: Perform a branstorming session to identify the risks. Choose one moderator, the rest of the team identifies the risks on cards with risk probability (1=very low=10%, 2=low=30%... 5=very high=90%) impact (1=very low=5%, 10%, 20%, 40%,80% - see next slide) Category (cost, time, scope, quality) min: Sort risks to identify the common set and enter risk into the risk list min: Assign the items of the risk list to 3 subteams Goal: 1. identify mitigation strategy for any risk with probability*impact in the red/yellow area 2. Determine probability and impact IF the mitigation strategy is executed Understand how to mitigate risks Duration: Produce the risk list (40 min) Presentation of selected results in class (10 min) wibas IT Maturity Services GmbH
