They use and expand these skills in more complex everyday situations and texts relating to themes studied. Students demonstrate an understanding of language specific writing conventions and show increasing accuracy in applying grammatical convention. Their understanding of other cultures and language as a way to communicate cultural and social values is demonstrated through increasingly mature research and interactions. Uses increasingly fluent spoken language in more complex conversations relating to themes studied. Listens and responds to more complex and varied texts appropriate to topics covered. Reads, understands and responds appropriately to authentic texts relevant to the themes studied. Demonstrates more detailed writing skills with grammatical accuracy consistent with the units taught. Applies language specific writing conventions. Uses the inquiry process confidently to demonstrate intercultural understanding.
