1 Course coordinator role requirements 1. Introduction 1.1 The primary role of a course coordinator is one of quality assurance. 1.2 A course coordinator is appointed by the School for all School-based collaborative courses. 1.3 The course coordinator is often (although not always) the NTU course leader. 1.4 The course coordinator is an academic member of University staff and is a subject specialist in the area of the collaborative course. 1.5 In their role, the course coordinator formally represents the University s Academic Standards and Quality Committee in monitoring collaborative provision. 2. Requirements of the course coordinator role 2.1 The table below indicates the requirements of the course coordinator s role in relation to the different categories of collaboration: Category B: Franchise C: Joint Delivery D: Consortium Requirements a. The course aims and learning outcomes are being delivered as specified at approval. b. That the assessment strategies, practices and procedures are understood and being implemented appropriately. c. Students achievement of the aims and learning outcomes is appropriate for the level of award being considered. The quality of student learning opportunities is being maintained: a. The teaching and learning strategies and practices are as specified, and are appropriate for the subject, level and student numbers. b. That learning resources planning and provision (staffing, facilities, learning resources, etc.) are as agreed at approval, and are appropriate for the level of the course September 2015 page 1
2 and the student cohort. c. Arrangements for admission (including Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)) and student support (pastoral and academic) are appropriate. The health of the subject and collaboration is upheld: a. The context and ethos at the Centre continue to be appropriate for the collaboration. standards and quality are understood, in place and are operating appropriately, including the involvement of students. d. Staff and educational development requirements are identified and undertaken. a. Undertake on-going communication with the partner, including ensuring that the Centre is updated about changes at course, School and University level, and ensuring that any on-going queries are resolved. produce a report of each visit for the course committee / School Academic Standards and Quality Committee (SASQC) or University Research Degrees Committee (URDC) and the Centre, using the course coordinator standard report template. c. Monitor the operation of the course committee (or equivalent) at the Centre, and ensure communication between the Centre and School committees. d. Give advice on and approve non-standard admissions, and provide guidance to new staff delivering the course. e. Moderate a sample of assessments (or ensure that this takes place) and ensure that external examining takes place in line with NTU requirements. f. Be a member of and attend the Board of Examiners meetings, either in person or via video conferencing. g. Contribute to annual monitoring and reporting of the collaboration. h. Undertake comparative data analysis to ensure comparability of standards. i. Ensure that any quality enhancement support and staff September 2015 page 2
3 development required by the Centre from the University is agreed and delivered. j. Undertake any necessary administration and keep records E: Joint Degree a. The health of the subject and collaboration is upheld by all partners: a. The context and ethos at the Centre and NTU continue to be appropriate for the collaboration. standards and quality are operating appropriately at all Centres. d. That joint staff and educational development requirements are identified and undertaken as appropriate. a. Moderate a sample of assessments and ensure that external examining takes place as per UK and NTU requirements. f. Be a member of and attend the joint Board of Examiners meetings, either in person or via video conferencing. g. Contribute to annual monitoring and reporting. h. Ensure that moderation and external examining takes place as per UK and NTU requirements. d. Be a member of and attend the Board of Examiners meetings for the partner s award and for the NTU award, either in person or via video conferencing. e.
