3 3 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY We investigated the feasibility of four different brands of apple juice: Mott s, Minute Maid, Ocean Spray, and Simply Apple. In the following report, we analyze different aspects of apple juice such as price, calories, sugars, and taste to determine which brand is the best bargain. We determined that Ocean Spray apple juice offers the best product for its price with regard to calories, sugars, and taste.

4 4 INTRODUCTION We investigated apple juice because of its popularity among people of all ages. We believe that these people deserve to know which brand can give them the best tasting apple juice for their money without submitting themselves to a high percentage of sugar and calories. Here is a list of the four brands we sampled: Mott s Minute Maid Ocean Spray Simply Apple In the following report, we inspect these brands and give our recommendation of the best one based on low price, low sugar and calorie count, and best taste. METHODS FOR EVALUATION We evaluated each brand using these four criteria: Price Calorie count Sugar count Taste We conducted a taste test of the four brands among 20 volunteers. Each apple juice brand was anonymously labelled A, B, C, or D, and volunteers filled out a survey like the one pictured below to rate the taste in order of best tasting to worst tasting. 5 5 Our procedure went as follows: 1. Created survey for volunteers to fill out. 2. Set up 20 plastic cups of each juice, 80 cups total. 3. Poured a quarter cup of Mott s in the cups of section A. 4. Poured a quarter cup of Minute Maid in the cups of section B. 5. Poured a quarter cup of Ocean Spray in the cups of section C. 6. Poured a quarter cup of Simply Apple in the cups of section D. 7. Got 20 people to volunteer to participate in the taste test. RESULTS OF THE EVALUATION We evaluated these four brands based on their price, sugar count, calorie count, and taste. The Ocean Spray brand won the overall evaluation. Here are the 20 participant s responses to the taste test portion of the evaluation. Each of the four options had advantages and disadvantages that set them apart. Through a taste testing survey in which we had 20 participants, Mott s was voted the best tasting, Ocean Spray came in a close second, Minute Maid placed third, and Simply Apple came in last. Below is a chart simply comparing all of the criteria for all four brands. However, Ocean Spray is overall the best brand of apple juice out of the four brands we sampled because it had the best price for its taste quality and also had the lowest calorie and sugar count. This makes it the most favorable product.
