2 General Information Technology in Lancaster Independent School District is currently supported by Network Services and Instructional Technology staff. The Director and Coordinators of Instructional Technology oversee staff training, teacher technology proficiency, technology staff development, and coordination of technology instruction, instructional software support, and software evaluation. Additionally, the two instructional technology coordinators assist with grant implementation, educational software licensing, and student/parent support with online communications. The Chief Technology Officer oversees the operation and development of the infrastructure, hardware acquisitions and upgrades, network and hardware support, E-Rate funding, software licensing, and grant implementation. The district has one network administrator, one infrastructure administrator, and one technician. One helpdesk staff provides basic support for the phone and systems. The district web site and intranet are managed by the district webmaster. The Director of Student Information Services and the Student Information System Assistant oversees and maintains the Pentamation system. A department secretary provides clerical support for the technology department, disseminates technology work orders, and manages technology purchase orders. The technology department is located at 1105 Westridge, Lancaster, Texas. The facility has a training lab for a variety of technology training offerings. 2

4 Technology Department Job Descriptions Chief Technology Officer Design and implement the district computer network. Provide 100% uptime for district computer network Evaluates hardware and software used in technology-based educational programs. Facilitates the use of existing technology and promotes the use of emerging technology. Works with other hardware and software specialist to resolve problems with district technology. Define program needs and fiscal resources to address the technology mission of the district. Protect the district's educational technology facilities from abuse, while making it available for the widest possible use. Advises on the design of facilities and assists in the selection of equipment, hardware and software for the educational use of computers and other technologies. Instructional Technology Staff Coordinates the improvement in the use of instructional computers, integration into the classroom curriculum of computer assisted/managed instruction, and assistance with the computer literacy curriculum. Arrange opportunities for administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals to develop and implement technology rich experiences for children as part of the teaching/learning process to be in compliance with TEA standards. Provide technology support to Lancaster ISD staff to encourage and support technology used in the operation of the school district. Explore and prepare grant proposals for technology needs that will positively influence student achievement. Evaluates hardware and software for staff to make suggestions available for teachers in need of educational technology relevant to their needs. Provide information to appropriate personnel to insure implementation and compliance to the Lancaster ISD Long Range Plan for Technology. Facilitates teacher development and implementation of appropriate learning experiences for students. Facilitates the use of existing technology and promotes the use of emerging technology in the teaching/learning process. Provides technology assistance and training for educational technology programs. Facilitates the improvement in the use of instructional computers, integration into the classroom curriculum of computer assisted/managed instruction, and assistance with the computer literacy curriculum. Assists in developing appropriate procedures for use of district educational technology facilities in accordance with state and federal technology standards. 4

Provide software support services for the district. Provide 100% uptime for district computer network. Respond to trouble-calls with computer systems within Lancaster I.S.D. Plan and direct inventory and stock control program for area(s) of Upgrade computer hardware and assist in software upgrades. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents for the area(s) of Technology Technician Provide repair and routine maintenance on computer systems within Lancaster I.S.D. Provide software support services for the district. Respond to trouble-calls with computer systems within Lancaster I.S.D. Plan and direct inventory and stock control program for area(s) of Upgrade computer hardware and assist in software upgrades. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents for the area(s) of Secretary Initial point of contact for all technology questions and repair issues. Forwards technology questions and repair issues as needed to appropriate technology personnel. Assists with materials preparation for technology training and staff development. Assists with technology budget record keeping. Assists with grants and proposal record keeping. Assists with technology training reservations. Webmaster Monitor the design of the district web page utilizing HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, and VRML. Edit the web page in collaboration with the Public Relations director. Apply Photoshop, Flash, Director, and SQL within the design of the web page. Operate and maintain the web server with SQL, MMC, IIS, Front Page 2000 Extensions. Configure and maintain the security of the web server with DNS, Front Page 2000 Extensions, Security & Permission Issues, Hacks, and WinNT Server. Monitor the web page for copyright infringement. Post web page on an established schedule. Telephony Technician Provide repair and routine maintenance on the telephony system within Lancaster I.S.D. Provide telephony support for the district Respond to trouble-calls with telephone systems within Lancaster I.S.D. Plan, inventory, and monitor stock of telephony resources. Upgrade telephony hardware and software as needed. Provide 100% uptime for district computer network. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents for the area(s) of 5
