2 (B) Professional information () Program aims: The broad aims of the Program are as follows: - To enhance the acquisition of basic knowledge of epidemiology & preventive medicine. 2- To provide the students with the basic knowledge related to microbiology & parasitology. 3- To improve the practical skills relevant to further public health practice such as: a- Using epidemiology & biostatistics. b- Applying basics of health economics. c- Detection & investigation of important public health problems (communicable, noncommunicable & nutrition). d- Working effectively within a team. 4- To teach students the principles of Health care management. 5- To identify & review relevant regulations regarding health system in Egypt. 6- To educate students about ethical, cultural, & social issues related to a particular health problem. Within the overall aims, the objectives of the Program are as follows: By the end of this program, the postgraduate student should acquire principles regarding all of the following:. Identification of different microorganisms of public health importance. 2. Planning, implementation, & evaluation of healthcare programs. 3. Assessment of community health needs 4. Prioritization of community health problems 5. Development of interventions & programs that acknowledge & appropriately address different health problems. 6. Identification of organizational decision-making structures, stakeholders, style, & processes 7. Planning for appropriate use of available resources 8. Designation & conduction of epidemiological studies 9. Designation & operation of disease surveillance system 0. Selection & conduction of appropriate statistical analyses. Designation & conduction of an outbreak or cluster investigation 2. Application of the principles of clinical preventive medicine (2) Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs): Intended learning outcomes (ILOs); Are four main categories: knowledge & understanding to be gained, intellectual qualities, professional/practical & transferable skills. On successful completion of the program, the candidate will be able to: A- Knowledge & Understanding A: Define the prevalent health problems in the community. A2: Identify different healthcare programs. A3: Explain principles of prevention and control programs of different health problems A4: Describe various epidemiological studies and appropriate statistical tests. A5: Recognize different morbidity and mortality indices A6: Explain the relationship of nutrition with health and disease. A7: Discuss social and behavioral determinants of health and disease. A8: Explain appropriate communication and health education strategies A9: Explain health behavior theory for different community health problems A0: Recognize the concept of the environment A: Explain environmental variables affecting health and disease. 2

5 (3) Academic standards: Academic standards for the program are attached in Appendix I. in which NARS issued by the National Authority for Quality Assurance & Accreditation in Education are used. External reference points/benchmarks are attached in Appendix II. a- External reference points/benchmarks are selected to confirm the appropriateness of the objectives, ILOs & structure of assessment of the program: (please list here the references & the website) Harvard School of Public Health b- Comparison of the specification to the selected external reference/ benchmark: All program aims of the Benchmarks are covered by the current program. The program courses are matched by 80%degree to those offered by the international universities except in the context of credit hours. 9 (6) Program admission requirements: General requirements: According to the faculty postgraduate bylaws Appendix IV. Specific requirements (if applicable): No specific requirements (7) Regulations for progression & program completion: Student must complete minimum of 45 credit hours in order to obtain the master degree, which include the courses of first & second parts, assay & activities of the log book. Courses description are included in Appendix III. Registration for the master assay is allowed 6 months from the day of registration to the program & must fulfill a total of 8 credit hours including material collection, laboratory work, patients followup, & meetings with supervisors. Log book fulfillment: Student must fulfill a minimum of 2 credit of log book activities. Lectures & seminars of the previously described courses (page &2) must be documented in the log book & signed by the lecturer. Works related to thesis must be documented in the log book & signed by the supervisors.
