1 New Advanced Level Management Training 2015/2016
2 Foreword September 2015 Senior managers and leaders across the career development sector, be this in the context of career education, career guidance/development, career coaching or talent management perform a vital role. Such roles demand a wide range of leadership skills and management styles and come with a high level of responsibility. All too often the training that is available for such key roles can be generic and requires the delegate to contextualise the training for the demands of their own sector. The CDI as the professional body for the sector has a critical role to play in driving the sector forward, which includes supporting CPD. One of our training focuses in is management and leadership and we are pleased to be offering six new Advanced Level Management training events, which have been specifically tailored to meet the needs of senior managers and leaders across the career development sector. reachfor* has worked in partnership with Maureen Atkins to develop these programmes. Each event is linked to a National Occupational Standard in Management and Leadership. Delegates will be given the time to reflect on their current practice and to further develop their skills and knowledge so that they can manage their organisations in providing a first class service to clients. Whether you are operating in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales, we feel sure that this new programme will be of interest. Please browse through this booklet and share the content with colleagues. For less experienced managers we also offer Introductory Level Management training. Each of the six components is being delivered in Birmingham between November 2015 and April All places should be booked through the CDI website Delegates may attend one or more days or the full programme of six days. The price is VAT per day for members and VAT for nonmembers. The price for booking all six events in this series VAT for members and VAT for non-members. *reachfor is a joint venture of regional social enterprises delivering services to young people and adults. So how do we get the balance right? 06
7 Module Five Leading the Way This module is designed for senior leaders working in a careers service, in a school/ college context, or in a career coaching or talent management business, who would like the opportunity to review the way they lead their part of an organisation. It is structured to allow time for group discussion as this method ideally suits the exploration of this particular subject. This module is designed to challenge the status quo, thus provoking new thought and potentially more innovative practice. As the professional body for the sector, the CDI has a major role in supporting managers and leaders to develop the service through selfreflection, personal development, learning and practical tools to achieve results. This course is part of six advanced modules designed to equip senior leaders with tools and techniques to keep their organisations at the cutting edge of the sector they represent. fully appreciate the power of a clearly defined vision understand how to lead with vision and purpose be inspired to inspire people in their teams know how to take people with them in achieving the vision understand the nature of leadership vs followership have planned actions for implementing in their place of work post module Birmingham: 17th March 2016 (Venue tbc) Leading Your Team with Vision and Purpose A chance to reflect on your organisation s vision and a look at how to embed the values and purpose in your teams. 8 Module Six All Change (Change Management) This module is designed for Senior Leaders who would like to be more adept at managing change. We have all set our mind to implement change and been enthusiastic about moving in a new direction, but what happens when things go wrong or people around you seem to be doing their utmost to stop the change from happening? On this module we will look at the territory of change and how it not only affects you, but those around you too. understand the perogative for change be able to identify where on the change curve they are be able to identify the blockages to change appreciate the need for communication to help people through change know how to plan and implement change be able to evaluate a change and draw from lessons learnt Birmingham: 28th April 2016 (Venue tbc) Why Change? A positive look at the need to create a culture of continuous improvement and an organisation that is willing to innovate to stay ahead The Change Cycle In this session a practical exercise will be used to illustrate the dangers of lag in a change project. It is also a great opener for exploring how change can feel when you re not leading it. We will also introduce the change curve and cover the critical aspects that if not managed can derail a change project. Moving Forward This session will be built around an exercise called Planners & Operators which looks at how a metaphoric organisation manages a change process. The learning is powerful and will be extracted in full during a plenary debrief Implementation & Evaluation This session addresses issues of when to educate and when to train on new changes. It also looks at the need for support and encouragement from leaders. There will be an opportunity to discuss how to manage and attack the lag in a project to avoid it being derailed. And finally, a look at how to evaluate and so draw from lessons learnt in future change projects. 08 Designed and produced by Wordcraft ( ) BP361/X8800
