2 Capability and Experience Strategic Sourcing provides functional expertise as a multi- industry specialist consulting firm. The team has proven experience in developing strategic thinking and delivering on the practical implementation of projects with sustainable results. Founded in 2005 as a Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, Contract Negotiation, and Project Management organisation, SSCL employs specialist consultants, project managers and analysts with experience across a wide range of industries, including: Defence, Aviation, Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Logistics, Distribution, and National Retail. The SSCL team is able to use core analytical and commercial skills to support a wide range of clients. SSCL brings functional expertise to industry sectors, with the benefit of working across a wide range of industries and Government. Assisting clients develop and execute responses to Government Procurement processes has become an increasingly sought after service. Our Bid Management Services can include development and execution of responses through to contract negotiation and implementation of the resultant agreements. Representation of international suppliers within the New Zealand market is an additional value- add service available. Having commenced his logistics and procurement career in 1987 in the NZ Dairy Industry as a Logistics Coordinator with NZ Dairy Board, Bernie migrated through a range of senior procurement and commercial roles as an employee of NZ Diary Board, Heinz and Telecom. As a consultant and ultimately through establishing Strategic Sourcing, Bernie draws from a deep experience base and is supported by a tight team of Procurement, Supply Chain and Logistics practitioners to assist clients. Bernie Diver, the Principal of SSCL is the Chair of the NZ Defence Industry Association and has represented Industry on the NZ Government Procurement Reform Strategy Group. Bernie recently assisted with the production of the Ministry of Defence Paper, Optimising New Zealand Industry Involvement in the Defence Sector, as a member of an Expert Advisory Group, and has been appoint by the Minister of Defence to the Defence Industry Advisory Council (DIAC). 3 Our project history includes External advisor for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) organisational review of its Procurement and Shared Services functions, including their strategic role, tasks, accountabilities, structure and resources required to deliver to the expectations of the Chief of Defence and the Crown s functional procurement lead, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). Execution of Strategic Procurement projects across a wide range of industries including the establishment of organisational internal capability. Developed specialist knowledge within the Media Buying and Creative Industry through both managing procurement processes within the FMCG Sector and being engaged by AGEIS Media (London, UK) to teach their Executive Team how to negotiate with their client s procurement teams. Leader of the NZDF Contractual Renewal Team in the negotiation of the $250M Navy Dockyard Management Contract with Babcock NZ Limited. Design and implementation of Logistics (distribution) systems across a range of industries, including commodity products, perishables, FMCG, manufactured goods and component elements. Fleet optimisation, route management, hub & spoke DC operational options, inventory optimisation, load aggregation, together with selection and implementation of ERP demand and inventory management technology including associated organisational redesign. Design, negotiation and implementation of a break- through logistics model to support Air NZ s B fleet. This project required highly complex inventory optimisation and replenishment of spares through an international logistics chain. Assisted a Fletcher Building subsidiary to implement an alternative logistics distribution model, including the consolidation of multiple service providers, significantly reducing cost while increasing service delivery. For the entire NZ Defence Force Inventory, conducted complex Inventory Optimisation analysis with the resultant implementation of alternative inventory replenishment process to re- balance inventory holdings against demand and availability of supply. The analysis resulted in SSCL being engaged to undertake the physical control of aspects of the Defence Force s inventory and subsequent logistical responsibilities. Supply Chain Optimisation, from procurement, negotiation, warehousing optimisation, through to distribution and production planning and despatch management in multiple industries including aircraft engineering, FMCG, Heavy Engineering, Manufacturing, Retail and Distribution sectors. Large infrastructure developments involving research and negotiation strategies for Public Private Partnerships and Government procurement processes. Page 3

4 RFP management for many large blue- chip clients including Australian and NZ manufacturers, government agencies, airlines and telecommunications groups. Defence / Crown Engagements: On behalf of the Minister of Defence, SSCL undertook study and co- published the study on the logistics support of their RNZAF B757 Aircraft. SSCL participated on the evaluation team for the RNZAF B757 Logistics Outsourcing RFP. Organisation redesign, including outsourcing functions to specialist providers and establishing new operating models for the delivery of capability. The Industry Plan for the New Zealand Defence Industry Association (NZDIA) was written by SSCL in collaboration with MOD, NZDF and NZT&E. Bernie Diver was recently appointed Chairperson of the NZDIA.NZ Government procurement and supply chain reviews, including development of a commercialisation business case for the RNZAF Hypobaric Chamber. SSCL was engaged as an independent Aviation Commercialisation expert to develop an outsourcing business case for the support of a retiring fleet of aircraft. Aviation. Negotiation of multiple supply contracts including Power plant, IFE and Component Support contracts. Review and optimisation of Air New Zealand s Engineering supply chain management processes, including use of SAP: the Air NZ ERP system. Airlines. SSCL were involved in the launch of a new overseas airline which required the production of planning & regulatory compliance documentation. SCCL created & published a comprehensive document suite covering policy and process manuals for the operations, maintenance and supply departments. ERP implementation projects including drafting the original needs analysis, management of the procurement process to select the right system and vendor through to implementation. Engaged by a range of Universities, Private training providers and directly by clients to teach all aspects of Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement and Bid Management. For numerous years, delivered the Supply Chain Management module for the NZ Defence Force s Logistics Management Training Course for Senior NCO SSCL s project capabilities and approach include: Functional expertise within Supply Chain, Logistics, Bid Management and Strategic Procurement. All projects are supported by specialists through Process Mapping, Technical Writing, Inventory Optimisation and Distribution Route Analysis. 5 Our Core Team Bernie Diver Bernie Diver is the Director of Strategic Sourcing (SSCL Ltd), and has recently signed a partnering relationship with BECA to enable both firms to leverage their unique capabilities for the benefit of clients. Through the establishment of Strategic Sourcing in 2005, Bernie is committed to ensuring sustainability for both clients and suppliers through the implementation of Supply Chain strategies that deliver the best Total Cost of Ownership possible. Bernie has advised leading companies in the negotiation of major strategic sourcing transactions. Clients advised include Air NZ, NZDF, MoD, Carter Holt Harvey, Goodman Fielder, Fletchers Group companies, Lockheed Martin, Aegis Global Media Group, Honeywell, Compass Group, Atihau Whanganui Corporation and Crown procurement. Bernie has been involved in international negotiations with GE, Air France Industries, Boeing, Ageis Global Media and Rockwell Collins. Bernie s focus is to assist companies approach their Supply Chain negotiations using a structured approach and strategic thinking. Studying negotiation at Harvard Business School has enabled Bernie to combine his experience and passion for negotiation with the very best of practical frameworks to create value for clients. Bernie has a Post Graduate Diploma of Business, Operations Management from Auckland University. Through Strategic Sourcing, Bernie also offers a series of Supply Chain Executive Short Courses to the business community through The University of Auckland s Business School or as in- house training modules. Bernie has been an active member of the Institute of Directors and has undertaken professional development in Governance Essentials. Equipped with multi- industry Contract Negotiation, Strategic Procurement and Supply Chain expertise Bernie leads all Strategic Sourcing projects ensuring the highest standards of delivery are achieved. Bernie is the Chair of the NZ Defence Industry Association and has represented Industry on the NZ Government Procurement Reform Strategy Group. Bernie holds a NZDF Security Clearance to Secret (SV) level. Phil Garside With over 38 years of experience in the aviation industry Phil is uniquely placed to provide guidance and advice on a wide range of disciplines. Phil s successes in the management of sophisticated and high value aviation assets quickly developed to fleet wide responsibilities, most recently for Cathay Pacific and Air New Zealand. Phil s experience has been invaluable in the negotiation of strategic support contracts within Air New Zealand and more recently for Strategic Sourcing s key clients. He has a keen eye for opportunities to simplify end to end processes, thereby reducing costs and improving productivity. Phil is the Engineering Director of Strategic Sourcing s Aviation Division. Phil supports the SSCL team through leading clients through the process mapping stages of projects. Phil engineering and aviation background enables him to understand and simplify what are often seen as impossible to understand operating environments. Page 5

6 Mark Dunlop Mark commenced his association with SSCL in 2010 as a sub- contracting member of the cluster consultancy team. In addition to his 30+ years of salaried work experience in P&O NZ Ltd, the Fletcher Building Group, Housing New Zealand and Foodstuffs, Mark commenced consulting in the late 90s with two core clients (Commonwealth Bank of Australia and the Yakka Group). He subsequently joined PWCC and then IBM as a Principal Consultant in Strategy and Change. Through a consulting assignment with the Foodstuffs group he returned to salaried employment with that organisation until Mark s has advised companies in a range of disciplines. He has significant experience in operational, executive and governance roles in large organisations with strengths recognised in operational line management, strategic leadership, and project management and implementing change. With a strong mentoring, style and leadership development experience in Australia and New Zealand he is particularly strong at identifying strategic direction, implementing and embedding change, cultural alignment, and is noted for an outcomes focus in the projects he leads. Mark has a record of success with Government tender and RFP outcomes for suppliers to the sector. This can be reflected through the example of his input to the Yakka Group on both sides of the Tasman. From engagement as Project Manager on a Defence sector EOI, together with the client he led strategy development, with submission of the RFP and successful negotiation of a major contract. He was retained as Project manager for the business commissioning - a Greenfield 3PL start- up for a $200m national outsourcing contract. With core elements of the bid including, greenfield s site development, warehousing automation, paperless end- to- end systems, IT enablement, logistics planning, client centric outcomes and business modelling, the project won NZ logistics and IT association awards, and was delivered within budget, ahead of schedule. Mark moved into an on- going role as a Board advisor and coach to the CEO, and was engaged on several similar initiatives within the Yakka Group both on strategy and operational effectiveness. Since the sale of the business to PacBrands, Mark has remained an advisor to members of the Laidlaw family. Several suppliers to the Yakka Defence contract engaged Mark subsequently in their businesses. Mark has an MSc (Chemistry) with first class honours, and a Diploma of Business and Industrial Administration (DipBIA) from the University of Auckland. He studied change management at INSEAD in 2008 and completed the Leadership New Zealand programme in He is Chairman of a registered charity and has experience as a director and in advisory board roles in New Zealand and Australia. Omid Baghshomali A former RNZAF officer, holding a Bachelor of Engineering, Associate Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering and specialist training in Aircraft Stress Analysis, Materials Technology and Lead Auditing, Omid has significant aviation quality assurance experience. Omid has been a core member of team Strategic Sourcing Aviation team since Page 6

7 Warwick Catchpole Warwick is a management professional with a diverse range of experience in procurement management as well as programme and project management. With significant exposure to organisational change management, IT project management and business process improvement activities, Warwick has operated across a variety of environments including public sector, manufacturing, FMCG, freight and logistics. With over 10 years experience in management roles Warwick s career has largely been advanced in highly complex, multi- site operations where his strong communication and negotiation skills have been honed. A member of the PMI, Warwick has continued to develop his formal education through attendance at multiple Programme and Project management courses. Rob Keyworth A Strategic Sourcing specialist with significant experience in contract management, procurement, business process improvement, and project management. Rob brings 25 years experience in Operations Management and Quality Management having worked with industry leaders such as UEB, Fisher and Paykel, Datamail, Air New Zealand, SR Technics and Argenta. Rob s key strength is his ability to quickly analyse and identify solutions to the underlying causes of organisational problems. He is personable individual and a professional with a strong ethical approach to business. With a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Chemistry from Auckland University, Rob s career has been focused on achieving operational excellence in the companies that he has been engaged with. His conceptual understanding of production methodologies and quality assurance theory have been developed and enhanced by practical experience resulting in exceptional analytical and problem solving ability. Rob has developed specific expertise the area of complex inventory replenishment and logistics modelling.
