1 0 GENERAL INTRODUCTION is one of the professional options that a student can choose at the EPF Engineering School in the final 18 months (3 semesters) of a five-year Master s programme. It aims to provide future engineers with competences in design, negotiating and managing ambitious technical projects in the industrial, IT and financial sectors. The programme consists of 80% management and 20% technical courses, partly taught in English (100% in the last semester, in the International Business Orientation). The management part of the programme provides students with a fundamental base in Economics, Strategic Management, Marketing, Negotiation, Communication and Finance. The technical part of the programme focuses on Information Systems Security, Quantitative Marketing/Data mining and Business Intelligence courses. Since 2007, the EPF programme has included a possible sub-specialisation in Finance (quantitative tools and methods, financial programming, risk management in finance etc.) for engineers who will support traders involved in increasingly sophisticated transactions. In addition, through their participation in a hands-on, four-month project, the students will act as junior consultants pitching for new business. The commercial proposal they have to design in a competitive tender process will encourage future engineers to actively find, integrate and apply technical and managerial concepts and methodologies, provided mainly by teachers with an operational background. Among the firms that have contributed to this business game by offering genuine tenders are L Oréal, Plastic Omnium, Arch Chemicals, Valéo, Manutan, Atos Consulting and Société Générale. 0 MAIN COMPETENCIES ACQUIRED At the end of their training period, the students will be able to master the following competencies: >> Tendering and winning new clients by: Analysing markets and market segments Identifying new client targets and producing a marketing plan Implementing a relational strategy (networking) Communicating with potential clients before tenders Establishing relevant customer relationship management >> Creating/adapting products and services by: Deciphering the client s positioning and stakes Analysing their needs, in terms of technical, financial, and organisational aspects Managing the product and/or service innovation process, in a sustainable way Modelling trends (in finance and in commerce)
