1 Learning Outcome 1 Learning Outcome 1: Students will be able to understand the matrix of music industry modalities, the similarities and differences, and how they interrelate, including broadcast (terrestrial, satellite, internet), record companies, distribution concerns (physical/digital), retail concerns (physical, digital), and live entertainment concerns. Assessment 1: Students are required to apply their knowledge through the analysis of the various music industry sectors, and how they inter-relate. the broadcast industry, recording industry, distribution industries, retail industries, and live entertainment industries. Administration: Learning Outcome 1 is accomplished throughout the curriculum; and, more specifically, in the following courses: BUS118 Music Industry Economics; BUS105 Music Industry Careers; BUS 340 Strategic Management in the Music & Entertainment Industries.
2 Learning Outcome 2 Learning Outcome 2: Students will be how to market, promote artists, merchandise, and music product through physical and digital channels, utilizing conventional and new media platforms. Assessment 1: Students are required to create integrated marketing plans, new media promotion plans, budgets, and distribution strategies for specific businesses, artists, and intellectual property. marketing, new media platforms, distribution strategy, and retail strategy Administration: Learning Outcome 2 is accomplished throughout the curriculum; and, more specifically, in the following courses: BUS220 Music Marketing & Merchandising; BUS129 New Media Strategy; BUS317 Entrepreneurship & Small Business Development; BUS 340 Strategic Management in the Music & Entertainment Industries.
3 Learning Outcome 3 Learning Outcome 3: Students will have an understanding of the legal aspects of the music industry including contracts, agency relationships, copyright, and licenses and royalties associated with intellectual property. Assessment 1: Students are required to become familiar with and complete various forms and legal agreements associated with copyright and publishing that are in common use in the music industry, and, have a detailed understanding of the basics of contract law, and, have experience in evaluating and analyzing various types of contracts that are in common use in the music industry, and, have a detailed understanding of the basics of copyright law, licenses, and royalties thereto and pertaining. the legal aspects of the music and entertainment industries, and will be required to display their understanding of copyright, publishing, licenses, and royalties through project work and other assignments. Administration: Learning Outcome 3 is accomplished throughout the curriculum; and, more specifically, in the following courses: BUS118 Music Industry Economics; BUS315 Contract Law; BUS 319 Legal Aspects of the Music & Entertainment Industries, BUS 323 Copyright and Publishing.
4 Learning Outcome 4 Learning Outcome 2: Students will master the techniques of detailed decision-making processes, critical/lateral thought, and entrepreneurial dynamics. Assessment 1: Through case analysis, competitive analysis, study of new and emerging business models, formulation of solution strategies, and integrated strategic marketing plan development, students will display their grasp of critical and analytical thinking, as well as their abilities to postulate new business models, and service intermediaries. analytical techniques, essential management concepts, and understanding of entrepreneurial dynamics, and will be required to further display their understanding through project work, group presentations, and other assignments.
