The reasn is simple: We are dedicated t the advancement and well-being f ur students and emplyees. Pr chices cncerning alchl and ther drugs ( AOD ) put yu, yur families, and yur academic and prfessinal gals at risk. These risks include dangers t health and safety yur wn and thers and the ptential fr serius penalties impsed by Regency and within the criminal justice system. With this plicy, Regency seeks t prvide an intrductin t these risks, in rder t supprt yu in making infrmed and intelligent chices that help yu t stay safe, fcused n teaching and learning, and firmly n the path t realizing yur dreams fr the future. Health Risks Health Risks f Alchl rrespnsible and excessive alchl cnsumptin presents multiple risks: Even lw dses f alchl cnsumptin significantly impair the judgment and crdinatin required t drive a car safely, increasing the likelihd that the driver will be invlved in an accident. Lw t mderate dses f alchl als increase the incidence f a variety f aggressive acts, including dmestic and dating vilence. Mderate t high dses f alchl cause marked impairments in higher mental functins, severely altering a persn s ability t learn and remember infrmatin. f cmbined with ther depressants f the central nervus system, much lwer dses f alchl will prduce all f the effects described abve. Repeated use f alchl can lead t dependence (alchlism). Sudden cessatin f alchl intake by active alchlics is likely t prduce withdrawal symptms, including severe anxiety, tremrs, hallucinatins, and cnvulsins. Alchl withdrawal can be life-threatening. Research indicates that children f alchlic parents are at greater risk than ther children f becming alchlics. Lng-term cnsumptin f large quantities f alchl, particularly when cmbined with pr nutritin, can als lead t permanent damage t vital rgans such as the brain and the liver. Even shrt-term use carries a risk f death due t verdse r impairment f ne s ability t respnd t lifethreatening situatins. Mthers wh drink alchl during pregnancy may give birth t infants with fetal alchl syndrme. These infants have irreversible physical and mental abnrmalities. Health Risks f llegal Drugs Similarly, there are significant risks assciated with the use f illegal drugs. The chart attached at Exhibit 1 prvides summary infrmatin cncerning the pssible effects and health risks assciated with a number f these substances. Students and emplyees interested in learning mre abut the health risks f varius illegal drugs are als encuraged t read Drugs f Abuse published by the U.S. Drug Enfrcement Agency and available at r t request referral resurces frm Regency, as discussed belw. Penalties and Sanctins fr AOD Vilatins Disciplinary Actin at Regency At Regency, any pssessin, use r distributin f alchl and illegal drugs by students and emplyees is strictly prhibited n campus 1 r while participating in Regency-spnsred activities at any lcatin; prvided, hwever, that Regency may frm time t time make exceptins fr alchlic beverages at emplyee events that are (1) ff-campus and (2) d nt invlve students, at which emplyees will be subject t prcedures t prevent illegal r excessive cnsumptin. Students and emplyees, 1 On campus means the physical campus facility, any cmmn areas f a mall in which the campus facility is based, and the parking areas serving the campus facility.

2 withut regard t age, are als prhibited frm being n campus while intxicated r impaired frm alchl r ther drugs. f Regency management develps a reasnable suspicin that a student r emplyee f Regency is under the influence in this manner, that individual will be required t leave the premises after arranging fr safe transprtatin. f he r she is unable r unwilling t assist in arranging safe transprtatin, Regency will cntact the lcal plice department fr directin and assistance. Any student r emplyee wh is determined after an investigatin t have cmmitted a vilatin f this plicy will be subject t disciplinary actin, up t and including terminatin f enrllment r emplyment, respectively. Penalties in the Criminal Justice System Federal, state and lcal laws prhibit the pssessin, use r distributin f illegal drugs. Additinally, such laws prhibit multiple types f alchl-related cnduct, including but nt limited t: the pssessin and use f alchlic beverages by any individual under the age f 21, the peratin f a mtr vehicle beynd designated bld-alchl levels, and public intxicatin. Vilatin f these laws can lead t felny r misdemeanr criminal cnvictins and legal sanctins, which include but are nt limited t mnetary fines, imprisnment, frfeiture f prperty, and lss f driving privileges. The chart attached at Exhibit 2 prvides a descriptin f federal penalties and sanctins fr the trafficking f cntrlled substances. Title V Sanctins Additinally, as itemized in the chart belw, any students cnvicted f pssessing r distributing illegal drugs while receiving Title V assistance will be ineligible fr federal financial aid. f cnvicted f bth pssessing and distributing illegal drugs and the perids f ineligibility are different, the lnger penalty will apply. While Regency des nt emply drug and alchl treatment cunselrs r prfessinals, we will maintain drug and alchl educatin infrmatin and a list f natinal htlines, and we will assist students and emplyees in identifying lcal supprt services that may ffer cunseling, treatment, rehabilitatin, and assistance with re-entry. T make a request fr assistance, we encurage individuals t reach ut t thse Regency emplyees trained t respnd t such requests. We encurage students t reach ut t the Campus Manager r the Student Liaisns, and we encurage emplyees t reach ut t Regency s Human Resurces generalists. Emplyees may als utilize the cnfidential emplyee assistance prgram ( EAP ). N student r emplyee will be disciplined fr requesting assistance r infrmatin fr issues related t the use f alchl r drugs. Hwever, students and emplyees shuld understand that in the event that a request is received fllwing an incident f cnduct in vilatin f this AOD Plicy, Regency will prceed t investigate the matter and t impse all apprpriate disciplinary actin. As ne key exceptin t this plicy, a student wh reprts a sexual assault that ccurred while he r she was under the influence f alchl r ther drugs, whether as a victim r witness, will nt be subject t discipline under this AOD Plicy. n the event that a student is terminated fr a vilatin f this AOD plicy and files an appeal requesting t restart the prgram, any decisin granting the appeal may be cnditined upn the submissin f prf, t Regency s satisfactin, f the successful cmpletin f an apprpriate rehabilitatin prgram and a letter f recmmendatin frm a rehabilitatin cunselr. 2

This drug impairs shrt-term memry and learning, the ability t fcus attentin, and crdinatin. t als increases heart rate, can harm the lungs, and can increase the risk f psychsis in thse with an underlying vulnerability. Prescriptin medicatins, including piid pain relievers (such as OxyCntin and Vicdin ), anti-anxiety sedatives (such as Valium and Xanax ), and ADHD stimulants (such as Adderall and Ritalin ), are cmmnly misused t self-treat fr medical prblems r abused fr purpses f getting high r (especially with stimulants) imprving perfrmance. Hwever, misuse r abuse f these drugs (that is, taking them ther than exactly as instructed by a dctr and fr the purpses prescribed) can lead t addictin and even, in sme cases, death. Opiid pain relievers, fr instance, are frequently abused by being crushed and injected r snrted, greatly raising the risk f addictin and verdse. Unfrtunately, there is a cmmn misperceptin that because medicatins are prescribed by physicians, they are safe even when used illegally r by anther persn than they were prescribed fr. nhalants are vlatile substances fund in many husehld prducts, such as ven cleaners, gasline, spray paints, and ther aersls, that induce mind-altering effects; they are frequently the first drugs tried by children r yung teens. nhalants are extremely txic and can damage the heart, kidneys, lungs, and brain. Even a healthy persn can suffer heart failure and death within minutes f a single sessin f prlnged sniffing f an inhalant. Ccaine is a shrt-acting stimulant, which can lead users t take the drug many times in a single sessin (knwn as a binge ). Ccaine use can lead t severe medical cnsequences related t the heart and the respiratry, nervus, and digestive systems. Amphetamines, including methamphetamine, are pwerful stimulants that can prduce feelings f euphria and alertness. Methamphetamine s effects are particularly lng-lasting and harmful t the brain. Amphetamines can cause high bdy temperature and can lead t serius heart prblems and seizures. MDMA (Ecstasy r "Mlly") prduces bth stimulant and mind-altering effects. t can increase bdy temperature, heart rate, bld pressure, and heart-wall stress. MDMA may als be txic t nerve cells. LSD is ne f the mst ptent hallucingenic, r perceptin-altering, drugs. ts effects are unpredictable, and abusers may see vivid clrs and images, hear sunds, and feel sensatins that seem real but d nt exist. Users als may have traumatic experiences and emtins that can last fr many hurs. Herin is a pwerful piid drug that prduces euphria and feelings f relaxatin. t slws respiratin, and its use is linked t an increased risk f serius infectius diseases, especially when taken intravenusly. Peple wh becme addicted t piid pain relievers smetimes switch t herin instead, because it prduces similar effects and may be cheaper r easier t btain. Sterids, which can als be prescribed fr certain medical cnditins, are abused t increase muscle mass and t imprve athletic perfrmance r physical appearance. Serius cnsequences f abuse can include severe acne, heart disease, liver prblems, strke, infectius diseases, depressin, and suicide. Drug cmbinatins. A particularly dangerus and cmmn practice is the cmbining f tw r mre drugs. The practice ranges frm the c-administratin f legal drugs, like alchl and nictine, t the dangerus mixing f prescriptin drugs, t the deadly cmbinatin f herin r ccaine with fentanyl (an piid pain medicatin).
