2 PPRO FINANCIAL LTD l CORPORATE PROFILE 2014 l 02 electronic payment market at a glance E-commerce is booming and according to recent studies1 is going to remain on its upward path with projected growth rates in the region of 20 percent. Much of this growth will be powered by emerging markets. In 2014, the Asia-Pacific region, for instance, is set to claim the number one spot for e-commerce. According to an emarketer study2, consumers there will spend USD billion online in 2014, compared with just USD billion in the US. North America remains, however, one of the biggest e-commerce drivers worldwide. When it comes to paying for goods and services purchased online, the preferred method varies significantly from one country to another. Although credit cards are still the most widely used and internationally recognised form of payment worldwide, alternative options are accounting for a growing share of e-commerce sales4. When asked to list their top three payment choices, almost 80 percent of digital buyers in Germany, for instance, prefer to pay on account (invoice), whereas a mere 35.3 percent reach for their credit card. In the Netherlands, on the other hand, 59.5 percent of shoppers prefer the local bank transfer system ideal5. The Boleto Bancário pay-in system enjoys widespread popularity in Brazil, already accounting for 20 percent of digital purchases. And in Switzerland, the PostFinance system has captured almost 40 percent of the e-commerce payment market. ABOUT PPRO E-commerce operators often work with payment service providers (PSPs) or software platform partners typical PPRO customers in both instances in order to connect their virtual stores with payment schemes. These cards can be issued both physically and as virtual cards (e.g. vouchers) or NFC devices (e.g. stickers, keyrings). In addition, PPRO distributes software, online vouchers and virtual prepaid cards for secure online payments. Supported by PPRO s own development team, this platform is highly available and features extensive reporting and reconciliation capabilities for extremely granular billing. PPRO s function-rich, accesscontrolled portal gives customers real-time insights, including reports and statistics, into all transactions and accounts. ISSUING SERVICES As a PCI-certified principal member of MasterCard and Visa, PPRO distributes white label or co-branded prepaid cards to the corporate sector. With its e-money license, PPRO offers e-money accounts to be used directly or indirectly through the prepaid cards attached to the account for credits/debits, transfers and payouts. In addition, PPRO uses its own bank code to set up online accounts with IBAN and BIC numbers for incoming payments. These are complemented by whitelabel and co-branded products such as a complete e-wallet platform, a prepaid product and InstantTransfer, a real-time bank transfer solution.
