16 GE Power & Water Reciprocating Engines High-Performance Engines for Multiple Applications GE s Jenbacher and Waukesha* gas engines account for more than 34,000 units and provide 32 GW of power around the world. Jenbacher gas engines give you a power range of 250 kw to 10 MW with fuel flexibility to run either on natural gas or a number of other gases. They furnish onsite power, heat and cooling for a variety of commercial, industrial and municipal applications particularly renewable and waste-to-energy, industrial power generation and cogeneration/chp (combined heat and power), and oilfield power generation. More than 14,500 Jenbacher gas engines are operating in 100-plus countries. When you have critical oilfield power generation, gas compression or mechanical drive applications in harsh, remote environments, Waukesha gas engines demonstrate their durability, reliability and performance with a power output of 120 kw to 3,600 MW (160 bhp to 4,835 bhp) and the capability to run on a wide range of fuels (including high-btu hot fuels, shale gases and variable quality field gas). More than 19,500 Waukesha gas engines are operating in over 100 countries. Jenbacher Type 2 High Efficiency, Excellent Durability This high-efficiency, high-reliability engine in the 250 kw to 350 kw range has a robust design and uses a stationary engine concept. All that gives you excellent component durability and a 60,000-operating hour service life before the first overhaul. The substantial set of benefits you get includes enhanced combustion to boost efficiency; a turbocharger bypass to compensate for extreme operating conditions; a high-performance, long-life spark plug; and LEANOX* lean burn control to help ensure low emissions. 16

17 Solutions Jenbacher Type 3 Savings on Service and Fuel Consumption With an electrical output of 500 kw to 1 MW, Type 3 engines are known for their long service intervals, maintenance-friendlier engine design and low fuel consumption all of which help ensure excellent efficiency. Type 3 engines have a supercharger for homogenous mixture at low gas pressures and a compact construction that can be installed in a 40-foot container. Like the Type 2, they have a turbocharger bypass, a high-performance, long-life spark plug for reliable operation, and LEANOX* lean burn control. Jenbacher Type 4 Highest Efficiency in Its Class These engines have the same design, emissions control, and waste gas-to-energy capabilities as the Type 2 and Type 3 engines, plus high power density and outstanding efficiency in the 800 kw to 1.5 MW power range. Indeed, the Type 4 gives you the highest efficiency in its power class. Its high-power turbocharger enables operating excellence even when you re operating at higher air intake temperatures and altitudes. Jenbacher Type 6 Highest-in-Class Efficiency, Great Power Density The Type 6 engine incorporates all of the core features of the Type 4 in an advanced-technology unit that serves the 1.5 MW to 4.4 MW power range with an electrical efficiency of up to 46.6 percent again, giving you the best performance in its power class. 18 GE Power & Water Jenbacher J624 two-stage First of Its Kind The world s first two-stage turbocharged gas engine has the potential to power 10,000 households. The J624 gas engine combines proven technology with the Type 6 engine design to offer you higher electrical output from 2.2 MW to 4.4 MW and greater total combined heat and power efficiency of more than 90 percent. This engine, which runs on natural gas, is particularly suited to hot and humid environments and multiple-engine power plants engaged in independent power production or cogeneration. Jenbacher J920 FleXtra Newest, Largest, Most Efficient Jenbacher Engine The newest and largest Jenbacher gas engine gives you an electrical output in the 8.5 MW to 10 MW range, the potential to power 18,500 households and, at 48.7 percent, the highest electrical efficiency of any Jenbacher gas engine or any other currently available engine in its power class. You also get total combined heat and power efficiency of more than 90 percent. The natural gas-fired J920 FleXtra engine is ecomagination 1 -qualified, with a smaller carbon footprint than conventional power plants. mobilflex J320/VHP* New Standard for Drilling Rig Power Generation The EPA mobile-certified VHP L7044GSI-EPA and J320 multi-fuel engines are setting the new standard for reliable, efficient drill rig power generation. Delivering up to 95 percent lower emissions and 80 percent lower fuel costs than diesel with similar transient load response, these engines represent a game-changing, fuelflexible solution for the drilling industry and artificial lift industry. 19 Solutions Waukesha* VGF* Durable, Compact, Fuel-Flexible If you operate within a wide range of stationary, spark-ignited, gaseous-fueled (from 400 BTU to 2,300 BTU) applications, the durable, compact Waukesha* VGF high-speed engines are designed for you. VGF engines have a power output of 120 kw to 800 kw (265 bhp to 1,175 bhp) and feature a high-altitude turbocharger, quick load step capabilities and versatile fuel pressure variances. VGF engines are consistent performers in extreme conditions. Waukesha VHP* Dependable, Long-Lasting, Versatile For more than 40 years, VHP engines have proved their dependability, longevity and durability while operating in many different operating conditions involving natural gas production applications. With a power output of 315 kw to 1.5 MW (405 bhp to 2,560 bhp), VHP engines give you low emissions across a variety of applications, as well as a wide turndown range of 700 rpm to 1,200 rpm. Waukesha 275GL+* More Power, Longer Engine Life The ecomagination 1 -qualified 275GL+ lean burn engine has excellent fuel flexibility with more power in unconventional gas applications efficiency, power output (1,887 kw 3,605 kw) and emissions performance. Its Engine System Manager* (ESM) control sharply reduces onsite setup time and requirements. That saves days on commissioning and adds years to engine life. With total operating experience of more than 100 million hours and about 3,000 delivered units, our versatile aeroderivative gas turbines have a power output of 16 to 100 MW, and they can run on a variety of fuels and emission control technologies. You also receive up to 90 percent net plant efficiency in CHP. The LM6000 has proven flexibility in diverse applications, with demonstrated fast ramp rates, under 10-minute starts, and cycling and load following capabilities. Aeroderivative Gas Turbines LMS100 Meeting Dispatch Power Needs Whatever your dispatch needs in almost every global power segment, the LMS100 turbine can meet them by delivering 100 MW of power at 44 percent efficiency in simple cycle, as well as 10-minute start times. In fact LMS100 turbines ramp up at 50 MW per minute, feature load following and cycling capabilities and excellent hot-day performance, and have a high part-load efficiency of 36 percent at 50 percent load. 24 GE Power & Water Compression Chongqing Gas Field, Chongqing City, China A Waukesha* 16V 275GL+* gas engine is increasing gas compression by 3 percent at the Chongqing Gas Field in Chongqing City, China. With an output of 4,835 bhp at 1,000 rpm, this is the first high-speed reciprocating compressor powered by a 4,000+ bhp gas engine and compressor to be packaged in China. Over a five- to ten-year period, the Waukesha unit will significantly boost the amount of gas that is compressed for pipeline transportation from the compression station, which has a daily output of 2.8 million cubic meters of natural gas. The engine also will lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to other similar engines. 24

25 Cases in Point Power Generation Songas Power Company, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania GE s aeroderivative gas turbines are helping the Songas power company compensate for the unstable Tanzanian grid s frequent load changes and produce 180 MW of reliable electricity at the Ubongo power plant, East Africa s largest thermal power station, in Dar Es Salaam. That amounts to one quarter of Tanzania s electricity supply. Since GE s aeroderivative two-rotor design provides faster responses to load changes than any other similar gas turbine in the power generation industry, Songas LM6000 gas turbines allow for greater grid stability when there are voltage and frequency fluctuations. Even though Tanzania s grid disturbances in 2013 more than doubled the typical annual volume, the GE turbines 10-minute startup rate let the Songas plant restart quickly and expeditiously. * Trademark of General Electric Company 25

26 GE Power & Water Cogeneration Houweling s Tomatoes, California, USA Thanks to a pair of 4.36 MW Jenbacher J624 two-stage gas engines from GE, Houweling s Tomatoes, a large North American greenhouse grower, is operating the first CHP greenhouse project in the U.S. to capture CO 2 from combustion for plant fertilization in its 125-acre greenhouses in Camarillo, California. The project, which also features a CO 2 fertilization system from GE, has almost 90 percent total thermal efficiency. With no need to obtain CO 2 from an offsite source, and because it saves almost 9,500 gallons (36,000 litres) of water per day by condensing water from the engines exhaust gas, the CHP system actually exceeds 100 percent efficiency in heating and powering the greenhouse. 26

27 Cases in Point Power Fast Valero Energy Corporation s oil refinery, Texas, USA GE s trailer-mounted TM2500* aeroderivative gas turbines can be installed and generating power in days, as Valero Energy Corporation learned when Hurricane Rita shut down power to Valero s oil refinery in Port Arthur, Texas. To resume operations, Valero needed a temporary distributed power system that could be quickly and easily installed into a tight space, but the typical solution a string of diesel generating sets was too big and cumbersome. Instead, GE supplied the refinery with a TM2500 gas turbine, a blackstart diesel generator, and an automatic transfer switch. Easy to ship, and simple and quick to install, the 22.5 MW TM2500 unit was delivering auxiliary power just six days after Valero signed a contract with GE, and within a month after the hurricane had struck, the refinery resumed production well before the local utility could restore power to it. * Trademark of General Electric Company 27

28 GE Power & Water Mechanical Drive Pumping station, central Andes Mountains, Peru The Transportadora de Gas del Peru (TgP) consortium was given a daunting challenge by the Peruvian government: To satisfy the growing regional and global demand for natural gas, design and build a pumping station at an elevation of more than 5,500 ft. (1,700 m) that could move natural gas liquids (NGLs) across jungles and the remote central Andes Mountains and into Peru s more densely populated cities. GE made that happen with three Waukesha* 12V 275GL+ engines that pump 594,000 gallons of NGLs per hour through a 14-inch pipe. 28

29 Cases in Point Specialty Fuels Landfill-gas-to-power plant, Valdemingomez, Spain In Madrid, Spain, the Valdemingomez landfill-gas-to-power plant has diverted the annual equivalent of more than 3 million metric tons of CO 2 from the atmosphere during its first 15 years of operation. Ever since Valdemingomez Spain s largest landfill site was commissioned, eight Jenbacher gas engines, four J620 generator sets, and four J620 cogeneration systems have been efficiently providing the facility with power and heat by using the landfill gas as engine fuel. While the engines generated electricity is fed to the local grid, the heat produced by the cogeneration modules supplies the plant processes with hot water and satisfies Valdemingomez s heating requirements.
