1 Br Kelvin Canavan fms ACU Scholarship 2012 (Commencing University 2013) Brother Kelvin Canavan fms, AM, B.A. (Sydney), M.S. (Cornell), Ed.D (USF), F.A.C.E, Executive Director Emeritus of Catholic Schools, Archdiocese of Sydney was appointed Executive Director of Schools in Br Kelvin previously served as a teacher, Inspector of Schools, Director of Primary Education and Deputy Director of Schools. He concluded his term in the Catholic Education Office in April 2009 having served as Executive Director for 22 years. One of his major goals was to develop and support excellent classroom practitioners to maximise the learning outcomes and success of students. This teacher education scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding Year 12 student who has shown consistent application to their studies and strong personal commitment to a career in teaching. Scholarship Benefit Successful applicants of this scholarship will receive $2,000 HECS support for each year of their teacher training (maximum $8,000). Recurrent funding is subject to satisfactory consistent academic results, sound practicum reports and university attendance over the duration of the course. Scholarship Criteria To be eligible for consideration for this scholarship, applicants must: currently be in Year 12 at a Sydney Systemic Catholic school be intending to apply, as the first UAC choice, to Australian Catholic University to begin either a primary or secondary teaching degree in 2013 in the opinion of the Principal and Executive Staff, have demonstrated the personal and academic qualities that would identify them as prospective teachers of quality be likely to receive as ATAR of or above make a commitment to teach in a Sydney Systemic Catholic school for a minimum of two years at the end of their training participate in an ongoing support program that will link undergraduates with sponsoring schools and the Catholic Education Office, Sydney. Note: Scholarship recipients will be considered upon application for a place in the Catholic Education Office Sydney Targeted Graduate Employment Program on the proviso that their performance academically and practically is substantive.
