2 Field Contents data integration to control room The application Page The solution Page Hardware overview Page System and network architechture Page HMI and Visu+ software application Page Value for customers Page 5 The application This document outlines the use of Phoenix Contact wireless communication coupled with Human Machine Interface (HMI), programmable controllers, and bungalow field connection and surge proection devices (VAL-MS-BE-AR) for monitoring field devices and providing field data to the control room. The goal of this application is to monitor the operation of critical equipment and to ensure that real-time field data, including alarms and other events, are logged in the historical database for failure analysis and performance evaluation. This application helps: Monitor and diagnose failures for immediate remedial actions to ensure safe travel for commuter, passenger and revenue freight railroads Protect valuable equipment from surges and lightning strikes, and during overvoltage conditions View, log and analyze failure data for efficiency improvement Schedule preventative maintenance cycles Reduce maintenance time in case of failure The solution This solution provides real-time fault data to the control room, eliminating the need for maintenance personnel to conduct visual, on-site inspections. Alarms and diagnostics communicate precise fault locations. This application also issues a text message or an indicating the exact field location and the specific number of the failed circuit. It also aids in predicting when the circuit protection components are due for replacement, based on the number of surges or lightning strikes occurring at that particular location. The VAL-MS BE-AR hardware integrates seamlessly with existing equipment in the field, creating a complete monitoring and diagnostics solution. The failure of circuit protection devices is conveyed to the HMI or SCADA screens via a real-time visualization package called Visu+. The failures and alarms are also logged in an alarm database available through an alarm viewer tool for user visualization. An FL switch is used to establish a LAN, which also communicates information to the field/trackside 80. radio. The field information is received by the master radio in the control room. This information is transferred to the PLC in the control room via the control room network. The PLC transfers field data to the HMI for user visualization. Secure access to the HTML pages is also possible through an FL mguard via a web browser from a laptop computer. By assigning different IP addresses and designating the Master (back office) and Slave (field) radio, the high-power WLAN transceivers can be configured right out of the box. PHOENIX CTACT P.O. 5 HMI and Visu+ software application There are three screens that demonstrate what is going on inside the case. The screen in Image represents field equipment with real-time temperature status and counter output, as well as a failure reading of surge protection on a control or signaling circuit. The alarm log provides: description of the problem, fault location and time stamp. 6 Value for customers Bringing real-time field data directly into a control or operation room is extremely important for Railroad and Highway installations. Most infrastructure-related installations in the United States are 0 to 0 years old, making infrastructure rehabilitation a timely concern, if not an urgent one. Upgrading control and signaling in the railroad infrastructure comes with high costs and stringent requirements. In an effort to minimize the cost of communication and diagnostics, trackside cabinets used to communicate field information to control rooms are installed at intervals along the track. Handling fault detection and diagnostics in these areas is time, labor and cost intensive. Phoenix Contact s application provides a cost-effective solution for remote diagnostics.
