1 citb.co.uk Your easy guide to the 2013/2014 Grants Scheme How to claim your grants
2 Claiming grant is easy we ll show you how Check our website citb.co.uk/grant or speak to your Company Development Adviser to find out how you can apply for grant to support your training. Once you have carried out the training or achieved a qualification, depending on the grant you claim, you will either need to download a claim form from our website or complete the form we send to you. Return the form to us and we will make the payment or tell you if we need any further information. But remember We need all claims for training that was completed between 1 August 2013 and 31 July 2014 to be returned to us by 31 October 2014 so that we can make sure you receive your grant. Direct Debit the easier way to pay We know that some firms are having trouble paying their levy. So remember, you can spread the cost of your levy over ten months to make paying easier. If you have any queries, please contact us on our Direct Debit helpline Important information about your Grants Scheme We need your Levy Return For existing employers claiming grant after 1 August 2013, grants can be claimed but we can t pay them until we have received your correctly completed 2013 Levy Return. Unfortunately, if we do not receive your 2013 Levy Return by 31 December 2013 you will lose all eligibility to claim grant within the 2013/2014 Grants Scheme year. Similarly, we can only make grant payments when outstanding Levy Assessments have been paid in full, or are subject to a Direct Debit agreement. What s more You ll need to keep your evidence. You must keep records to show the training you have undertaken and your achievements for a minimum of three years. These records must be available for inspection on request by CITB or its auditors. Unfortunately, in the event that training for which grant is claimed, is found not to comply, CITB will refuse the claim or have to recover payment. We do everything we can to make it easy for you to claim grant, but if you do not automatically receive a grant claim form within three months of your employee attending a course or completing a qualification, you need to download a form from citb.co.uk/grant then submit it.
3 Your industry, your grants We want everyone in the industry to have a voice and to make it heard. That s why the changes to the Grants Scheme were developed through consultation with the employer and federation representatives on the Grants Scheme Working Party, the Training Committee and local employer forum meetings across the three nations. This Grants Scheme year we have the opportunity to maintain increases in grant rates to encourage training and qualifications in the industry and, along with our improved website, we have been able to simplify the scheme to make grants easier to understand and claim. What s changing The CITB Board approved a number of changes to the 2013/2014 Grants Scheme effective from 1 August The main improvements and changes are detailed below. The recent increase in the Training and Development Plan and Short Duration grants are maintained at 50 per day After listening to employers, training sessions of half a day (3 hours) can now be claimed via Short Duration Grants for shorter term technical and professional training courses (e.g. NEBOSH) are increasing from 30 to 50 per day and will be paid at the same rate as grants for Degrees, BTEC, HNC, HND and Post-graduate Diplomas (available to a maximum of 1,750 per year) Achievement grants for Level 4 and above NVQs are being aligned with other NVQ achievement grants at 400 The Site Safety Plus attendance grant has been aligned with other attendance grants at 50 per day to simplify the Grants Scheme. What s staying the same There are no changes to the apprentice, Special Apprenticeship Programme and craft non-apprenticeship grants or achievement grants for qualifications such as NVQs. Technical and professional qualifications remain at 400. Construction-related work experience grants will continue at 30 per day (available to a maximum of 7,200 per year). Plant-related grants have not changed the temporary increase in plant-related NVQs at any level at 610 continues. Grants are available for the theory and practical elements of the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS). Theory Test grants are 60 and Practical Tests are 190, 240 and 410, depending on the category of plant. Supplementary payment The additional supplementary payment which is available to those employers who pay a levy and submit their Levy Return promptly remains at 22% (10% basic plus a temporary increase of 12%) for the 2013/2014 Grants Scheme.
4 See a real difference over 80% of employers agree that Apprenticeships make their workplace more productive* The availability of the grant and the assistance provided by CITB in finding the right courses has directly led to us taking on new apprentices thus creating new jobs. I would highly recommend the Grants Scheme; it s a rare gem in the construction industry where you can get financially rewarded for improving yourself and your staff. Ben Clear of CRB Contractors 81% of customers favour using a company which takes on apprentices* Apprenticeship grants of up to 6,000 or 10,250 available now. These days can be used as you choose, to claim for any training completed by your PAYE staff. You could also use your days to claim for 10 members of staff attending a five day course it s up to you. If you also used two LOSC during the year, you could also claim for a further five days for each of these LOSC. However, in this case the training days can only be used to claim grant for the named individual.
