2 Introduction The New Organizational Manual is an operating guide designed to provide support to professionals engaged in creating organizational charts and drafting job descriptions. This second edition is even more exhaustive and complete. It was prepared taking into account the suggestions of customers and manual users as well as the recommendations emerging from OD&M workshops involving the HR management community. More specifically, the following chapters have been expanded in this second edition: the methodological section, with the addition of Chapter 4, which illustrates an organization analysis technique (linear responsibility chart) that provides an immediate overview and understanding of the level of participation and responsibility of the different organizational roles in the management of a business process; the section dedicated to the job descriptions, with the addition of new professional profiles in existing areas and a new functional area (General Management, General Services and Secretary); moreover, new entries are the professional profiles of 4 product categories (Retail, Wholesale and Large-scale Retail Trade; Tourism, Accommodation and Food Services; Construction; Chemicals/Pharmaceuticals), chosen from amongst the most representative of the Italian labour market, with no pretences of exhaustiveness. Furthermore, due to its operative nature, the guide integrates the methodological contents (Chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4) with a series of resources and formats that can be used directly or customized by HR professionals (Chapters 5, 6 and 7). To make usage and customization easier, the CD-ROM of The New Organizational Manual offers the opportunity to study and download all the tools to PC, in editable format (.doc,.ppt). By saving the documents included in the Guide, it is possible to work directly on the job descriptions or on typical organizational charts, customizing the proposition of OD&M Consulting to meet specific requirements and needs. 2

3 Structure of the Manual [traduzione in un file a parte] Chapter 1: Provides guidance and methodological suggestions to design the company s organizational manual. Chapter 2: Provides guidance, suggestions and models to create organizational charts according to acknowledged standards. Chapter 3: Explains the appropriate syntax for job descriptions in depth and provides a few rules to follow when writing them out. Chapter 4: Briefly illustrates an organizational analysis approach based on the linear responsibility chart methodology, which is useful to redefine roles and responsibilities. Chapter 5: Provides two types of job description templates (simple and complex) as well as a list of useful verbs. Chapter 6: Contains a list of job descriptions, broken down by functional area; a hypothetical organizational chart is provided for each function along with the job descriptions corresponding to the positions identified, 123 job descriptions in total. Chapter 7: Contains a list of job descriptions, broken down by product category, 31 job descriptions in total. 3

ORGANIZATIONAL CHARTS: Contains a number of tables showing typical functional area organizational charts in PowerPoint format, which means they can be used immediately, changed and customized based on the company s needs; Annex 2.
