1 SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY and MIAMI DADE COLLEGE Introduction This articulation agreement is developed as a tool for advisement to assist in the transferability of comparable coursework from Miami Dade College to parallel programs of study at Syracuse University. Objectives Syracuse University enters into this agreement with the following objectives: 1. To attract qualified community college students into Syracuse University. 2. To facilitate an efficient and smooth transition into Syracuse University from Miami Dade College programs. 3. To provide a path of coursework at Miami Dade College that is applicable to programs of study at Syracuse University. 4. To encourage academic coordination, faculty and administrative interactions, and student engagement. Terms of Agreement The establishment of this agreement, the two academic institutions agree to the following terms: 1. Miami Dade College agrees to designate faculty and academic/transfer advisors to facilitate the advisement for students interested in transferring to Syracuse University. 2. Syracuse University agrees to provide special support services for transfer students under the auspices of SU's Office of First Year and Transfer Students, including: a three-day Transfer Student Orientation, the Transfer Student Mentor Program, the Six Weeks 2 Success Series, the Transfer Student Listserv, and Transfer Yellow Ribbon Outreach. The College of Arts and Sciences also requires a Transfer Student Forum for all transfer students. 3. Syracuse University agrees to accept the attached list of coursework into specific academic programs culminating in a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree provided achievement be no less than a grade of C or better and an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. The maximum number of transferable credit is 66 credit hours. 4. For students who satisfactorily completed the Associate of Arts degree and all of the lower division coursework required for the major of choice, Syracuse University will accept all lower division credits from MDC as outlined in the major-specific sheets attached to this agreement. 5. Syracuse University agrees to accept qualified candidates who meet the admissions standards of the desired program of study at the time of admission. Admission to SU is contingent upon a continued record of good citizenship and character. Admissibility into the program of study
2 to be determined by the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Students who complete the required lower division courses at MDC for their intended major at Syracuse University with a grade of C or better, and who maintain an overall GPA of 3.0, will be accepted into their intended program of study with a course-for-course articulation as specified in the agreement s appendices. 6. Students transferring from MDC will not be required to take the SAT or ACT as a requirement for admissions to Syracuse University. 7. Based on financial need, Syracuse University will waive its application fee for MDC students wishing to transfer. 8. Syracuse University will provide financial aid package intended to cover tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meals, supplies and books for those students who demonstrate financial need equal to or greater than these costs. Financial aid may include any combination of following; Syracuse University Grant, Federal Pell Grant, Federal Direct Student loans, and Federal Work Study. Students who demonstrate financial need less than the costs of tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meals, supplies and books will have their needs met under regular institutional policies for transfer students. Refer to the Syracuse University Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Program website for more information. Please note that there will be necessary adjustments to individual financial aid packages, either pending tuition rate increases and/or significant shifts in family income or wealth. 9. MDC graduates who have at least a 3.5 GPA and who participated in Phi Theta Kappa will be awarded an additional merit award from Syracuse University. In 2011, this award is currently $2, per year. 10. The agreement will be subject to annual review by both Miami Dade College and Syracuse University, or in the event there are changes to the curriculum at either institution. 11. Miami Dade College and Syracuse University will recognize and promote the agreement with prospective transfer students. 12. Faculty and administrators at Miami Dade College and Syracuse University will continue to develop collaborative ways to engage prospective transfer students.
