3 Welcome from the Conference Chairs Welcome to beautiful and historic city of New Orleans! This is the twenty-first year of the Allied Academies, whose mission is to support and encourage the exchange of ideas in higher education throughout the world. Allied Academies maintains a website that has developed into a communication medium for our membership and for scholars around the world. Journals are published simultaneously in hard copy and on the website. You can also view conference proceedings, newsletters, and academy information on the website. As an interdisciplinary organization, this conference features research that represents a wide range of ideas, from research contributions to pedagogic and educational applications. Allied Academies is a not for profit corporation and is not sponsored by a university or organization. It is dependent upon conference registration fees and membership fees. The camaraderie of the conference is as important in revitalizing you as a professional, as are the academic presentations. Ecclesiastes says that to enjoy your work is a gift from God. So, we are thankful to Allied Academies for providing a venue in which colleagues can share their job exultations and challenges. Finally, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to each of you. It is the authors and the conference participants who make the Allied Academies successful. Thank you and have a great conference! Dr. Katherine Taken Smith and Dr. L. Murphy Smith Murray State University Conference Chairs Trey Carland, President Allied Academies Special thanks to Jim and JoAnn Carland, Founders 2
