10 How to reach out to Hoya Alums Dear Hoya Alum, I noticed you on LinkedIn/Hoyas Online and that you are a fellow Hoya. Currently a student majoring in X at Y college graduating in 13/ 14/ 15, I am interested in pursuing a career in investment banking/consulting/marketing/non-profit. Given your background in this field, I would love to have an opportunity to learn more about your experiences. Would you have 20 minutes in the near future for a phone call/inperson meeting? 11 How to reach out to Hoya Alums Don t expect a response immediately It is your job to get the meeting If there is a gatekeeper (e.g., admin, exec assistant) give them the same respect and professionalism as the alum Follow-up is key once every 7-10 business days Once a time and date is set, reconfirm 24 hours in advance via Don t wing it! Prepare some questions in advance

17 Keep the conversation going Did the alum introduce to someone or give you something to act on? You should keep them in the loop on your progress. Based on the conversation, you can forward them interesting articles that are in their interest areas. As the months/years pass, reflect back on the people who helped you. Be sure to thank them periodically. Appreciation is currency.

18 Jason s parting thoughts The Hoya community is a great source of information in your internship/job search. Treat them well. It is up to you to create and maintain these relationships. Be organized and put in the effort. Enjoy the process. This will not be the last time you will be in a job search. Have fun with it, as you will meet great people. Never stop thanking others. It is good career behavior. Above all, be yourself!
