1 Reearch Programme on Neurocience International Reearch Programme on Neurocience
2 Reearch Programme on Neurocience NEURO in brief The Reearch Programme on Neurocience (NEURO) i a four-year programme between Finland, Canada and China providing funding for cutting-edge neurocience reearch in the participating countrie. The programme involve 16 Finnih, four Finnih-Chinee and three Finnih-Canadian reearch project. It provide imultaneou, coordinated funding for the project during The programme i alo aimed at trengthening collaboration with neurocience reearch programme and doctoral programme in other countrie. NEURO i funded by the Academy of Finland, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Intitute of Neurocience, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA) of the Canadian Intitute of Health Reearch. NEUROSCIENCE ADVANCING FAST O nly a few decade ago, neurocience hardly exited a an independent dicipline. Today, there are hundred of training programme in neurocience, which i one of the mot exciting area of modern cience. Without doubt, the role of neurocience i contantly increaing in variou field of ociety. Neurocientit have made tartling dicoverie that have tranformed our undertanding of the healthy brain and helped to treat diorder affecting million of people. Moreover, breaking it conventional boundarie, neurocience ha an increaing influence on the development of new intelligent technologie. CHALLENGES OF THE NEURO PROGRAMME Neurocience reearch i multidiciplinary and broad-baed by nature, combining, for example, biomedical reearch, information technology, philoophy and pychology. A key challenge i to link different area of the reearch to each other and to work toward a ynthei between thee. The Reearch Programme on Neurocience eek to achieve thi goal by bringing fragmented reearch environment together, promoting the introduction of new method and upporting veratile reearcher The NEURO programme conit of the following core theme: Molecular and Cellular Neurocience, Nervou Sytem Development, Platicity and Repair, Sytem and Cognitive Neurocience, Dieae of the Nervou Sytem, Neuroinformatic and Neurotechnology, and Ethical, Philoophical and Socio-Cultural Apect Related to Neurocience.
3 The human brain hold about 100 billion nerve cell. They form a network in which each cell i interlinked to hundred, or maybe even thouand of other nerve cell. The human brain i the mot complex cell-biological ytem known. No wonder the brain ha alway intrigued reearcher. Neurological dieae cot ociety approximately ten time a much a cancer. Jut a the environment, the nervou ytem i platic and flexible. training. The goal i to create high-level, cro-border project, where topical iue within neurocience can be approached with genuine multidiciplinarity. NEURO aim to produce new knowledge on, for example, memory, learning, ocial interaction, anxiety a well a neurological dieae and their treatment. The objective of the NEURO programme are: WHO: Global Burden of Dieae (GBD) 2002 Dieae Adjuted Life Year (DALY) to promote high-quality, multi- and interdiciplinary reearch in neurocience in the participating countrie, to etablih more effective networking and collaboration between reearcher in Canada, China and Finland, to enhance the application of advanced technologie in neurocience, to promote reearcher training, and to accelerate the exchange of new cientific knowledge among cientit and between cientit and other interet group.
