2 Welcome to Leadership Orlando Class 78! I am looking forward to chairing Class 78 as we launch into our Leadership Orlando journey! We are going to take part in some exciting experiences uniquely designed to give us a firsthand look at our larger region and challenges and opportunities before us. You will be encouraged to move Ideas to Results to build a better Central Florida Region. This will be an opportunity to learn and, just as important, to share in the community where we live, work and play. That said, I want you to begin thinking about what you would like to get out of this program. Bear in mind, this is not the traditional model of community leadership programs. Leadership Orlando is fluid, innovative and more relevant to the current issues of the day. Information will be blended with experiences that will enhance your understanding of our larger community and your role as a leader. As your facilitator, I believe it is important to make sure all sessions meet the groups desired goals because the more you engage, the more you will benefit. Please let me know of your hopes and expectations for your Leadership experience. As things come up during the next eight months, please don t hesitate to share new ideas and newly uncovered goals via at [email protected]. We assemble for the first time on Tuesday, September 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the brand new Hilton Orlando, 6001 Destination Parkway, Orlando, FL One of the goals for the Orientation Session is to get you thinking about the Central Florida Region. Where have we come from and where are we going? What are the current issues are we facing? How can you contribute? What role can you play in the region s future? On Wednesday, September 16, we will gather at the Orlando Marriott Downtown, 400 West Livingston Street,, for our Public Policy Advocacy Session, presented by BusinessForce. Our special luncheon speaker will be The Honorable Jeffrey H. Atwater, Senator-District 25 and President of the Florida Senate, along with members of the BusinessForce Executive Board who will join us. Please make plans to stay afterward on Wednesday for a Welcome Reception, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., at the Amway Center Experience Center hosted by the Orlando Magic. At the Center, you ll be able to get a sneak peek of what the new Amway Center will look like inside and out before its scheduled opening in Members of the Leadership Alumni Association will be joining us as well. I think you will be amazed at what you will see and who you will meet. Your active participation in Leadership Orlando is an opportunity for you and your classmates, from diverse backgrounds and industries, to learn more about our Central Florida Region, its leaders and how each of us can make a positive difference in our community. We will come together to connect with other Central Florida leaders, engage with new friends and, of course, have some fun (and I m all about fun!). I look forward to meeting you on September 15!
