A modern, collaborative, national, multiparticipant, multi-scale, content-rich Web Map of Canada; Topographic and imagery content; Hosted in the Cloud (ArcGIS Online); Authoritative, maintained-at-source content from local, provincial and federal organizations as well as industry;

Assembled and updated by Esri Canada in collaboration with hundreds of public and private data providers; Accessible by anyone with a Web browser integrated with the ArcGIS platform; A work-in-progress; Part of Esri Inc s global base map. 5 Why is the Community Map of Canada being built? Industry, government and others need a modern, authoritative, multi-scale, web-based, national map of Canada; The Community Map program creates a consistent, single map from many sources and makes the result accessible to everyone. This: - Reduces duplication of effort and drives down costs for producers and users; - Modernizes Canadian base mapping; - Increases productivity across many sectors; - Enables Open Data and Innovation

There is a synergistic relationship between the Community Map and the Open Data Movement

11 What are the benefits of participating? Standard base map with my content hosted and updated for my users and public to use; Consistent base map with adjoining jurisdictions and the rest of Canada Open Data Enabler; Participatory momentum hundreds of community members are participating 40 million usage hits/month and growing; Lower hosting costs and map request response costs highly scalable; Integrated with ArcGIS Online. There is no fee to the data provider for having their map data published in the Community Map and hosted on ArcGIS Online...

17 Key points about the GFX Production platform for the Community Map of Canada Reduces mapping costs; Helps Aggregators improve mapping services to their end users; Does not impact the internal systems and processes of Data Providers or Data Aggregators; The GFX is an Open Data exchange. Does not own or control data. A collaborative partnership model - similar to other exchanges (like Interac)

18 Key points for prospective participants No fee and very little work for participants; Participants retain ownership of their data; Participant data is not redistributed only caches of the data are published (not downloadable); Both topographic and imagery data can be published;
