3 GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Read this entire manual before using or performing maintenance on your system. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS. This manual contains important guidelines that should be followed when checking your system. There are no user serviceable parts in your system. Only qualified Pure Energies Representatives should service your system. Use solar modules for their intended use only. Do not disassemble the module, or remove any part installed by Pure Energies as this will void any manufacturer warranties and ULC listings. Do NOT drop, allow objects to fall on, stand, or step on solar modules. Do NOT concentrate sunlight on modules with mirrors, reflectors, lenses, or in any other manner. Doing so voids any warranty and the ULC listing for the module. Do NOT touch the solar module during the day. When these surfaces are exposed to sunlight, they can become extremely hot and temperatures can reach well over 71 C. Do enjoy producing green energy and supporting the future! 3/9

4 HOW DOES MY SOLAR SYSTEM WORK? System Components RAILS AND L-FEET Your solar modules are installed on a racking system that has been specially designed by PURE Energies. L-feet are bolted to your roof trusses so that the entire system is secured. A butyl-mastic membrane seals any holes and protects against the elements. Rails are then attached to the L-feet and the modules are installed on the rails. SOLAR MODULES (PANELS) A solar module consist of silicon solar cells that are laminated between strong tempered glass and a tough weather-resistant plastic back sheet. Modules are connected in a series of groups (positive to negative), making arrays with enough DC voltage to operate the inverter. INVERTERS Inverters convert the DC power coming from the solar array(s) to alternating current (AC). AC is the power that our distribution companies provide to our homes. AC power can be sent long distances and hence is the preferred power for North America. AC SYSTEM DISCONNECT The AC System Disconnect is present so that it can interrupt the flow of energy into the grid safely. When maintenance is done on the electrical portion of the system, the AC Disconnect allows electricians to work safely. UTILITY REVENUE METER The revenue meter detects the amount of kwh that your system is producing. Your Local Distribution Company installs the revenue meter and receives the information it provides in order to determine the generation payment. 4/9

5 Where does the power go? POWER FLOW DIAGRAM What happens if the utility power goes off? AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF DURING OUTAGES ( ANTI-ISLANDING ) For safety reasons, power from the inverter to the main utility panel is shut immediately when there is a utility outage. No power is allowed to flow out of the inverter into the utility grid from the system, as there may be personnel working on the utility power lines. This means that the house will have no electric power, neither from the solar panels nor from the utility, during a utility outage. When utility power resumes, the inverter automatically reconnects to the utility and resumes normal operation. There is a five-minute delay before the inverter returns to normal operation, during which it synchronizes with the utility power. You do not have to do anything in this situation!

6 MAINTENANCE WEEKLY Walk by your inverter once a week and make sure that it is functioning fine. Please refer to the Quick Reference Guide on page 7, for the meaning of different light signals, and how to proceed in specific situations. MONTHLY Check that the solar array is not being shaded between 9 am and 4 pm by vegetation or building structures. Trim vegetation if necessary. Cut any foliage that may be covering or restricting the ventilation space of your inverters as well. ANNUAL Annual system maintenance should be performed by a qualified Service Installation Professional who will check system wiring, connections and insulation wear to ensure that module mounting and bolting is secure. Under the Free Solar Program, annual maintenance checks will be completed by a qualified PURE Energies representative. WHAT DO I DO IF I SEE A PROBLEM? In the case of an emergency write down the LED light colour and error message displayed on your inverter. Have this manual with you and communicate the information on the following page to the Customer Care Group. 6/9

8 WHAT DO I DO IF I SELL MY HOUSE? Follow the steps below for a quick transition when selling your home: 1. Call PURE Energies Customer Care Group and notify them of your intended sale. We suggest a 30 day notification prior to the sale of your house. 2. Gain the Acknowledgement Agreement from the Customer Care representative and ensure that both the new homeowner(s) and you have signed it. Ensure that the new homeowner s contact information is provided. 3. Any further documentation will be dealt with between PURE Energies and the new homeowner(s). ** Please note that the annual homeowner generation payment will be mailed to the homeowner(s) on the deed of the property at the time of the payment anniversary. WHAT DO I DO IF I NEED TO RE-SHINGLE MY ROOF? Contact PURE ENERGIES Customer Care Group at least 2 weeks prior to shingling your roof. DO NOT touch, attempt to remove, or allow any third party to touch or attempt to remove the solar system. Once informed, PURE will schedule the removal of your system the day prior to the beginning of your shingling. Contact PURE ENERGIES Customer Care Group as soon as you have completed your shingling so that we can re-install the panels at the earliest availability. Please note that you can only shingle with the same material that you previously had on your roof. There may be penalties if a change occurs! Under the Free Solar Program we will complete the above for free once during the 20 year term. Any consecutive times, where a removal of the system is required, will be applicable to charges as stated in sections 6, 8, and 9 of the Homeowner Installation and Lease Agreement. 8/9
