4 Teleworking Hotel SHARED OFFICE SPACE for occasional teleworker use as needed Reduces office space requirements lowers OH costs PILOT at Air Force HQ Started with 12 cubicles for 48 workers (Rossyln) Spaces a MIX: reservagons for all day first- come, first served for short visits $314 K saved in leasing/yr As a result program expanded to: 36 cubicles + 2 offices (Rosslyn) 3 other locagons: Pentagon Andrews AFB Bolling AFB
5 Reducing Paper Use SSPP Sub- Goal: All Components Issued & ImplemenGng Policy to Reduce Paper Use by FY14 Missile Defense Agency POLICY Specific offices assigned to implement Double- sided = default (if capable); no cover sheet Only Network Administrators can change defaults Hit bu_on Login & choose hardcopy or e- mail printed only upon pick- up deleted from queue >4 hr ENFORCEMENT audit conducted to ensure compliance TRACKING by audigng devices for # of pages printed (be%er than tracking procurements too many purchasing paths) Defense LogisGcs Agency Default duplex pringng Use centralized devices No desktops (except high level or sensigve) Specific offices assigned to implement

RESULTS 10 tons collected 17,000 lbs of electronics sent for properly disposigon 2,600 lbs of appliances sent for recycling $10,000 saved in disposal costs TYPES of ITEMS 221 monitors 65 CPUs 62 servers 42 printers + TVs, faxes, microwaves, copiers, coffee makers
7 Outreach on Solid Waste Management & Recycling Naval StaGon Rota (Spain) Outreach to base community Flyers Recycling awareness events (dumpster dives) Ensure all new base employees & residents receive orientagons Specific InstrucGons re: special items, items no longer needed, & common mistakes (e.g., not removing caps from bo?les) RESULTS from FY 2008 to FY 2010: Now regularly contacted by tenants re unwanted items Example: 132 lbs excess floor wax bound for disposal found a home with base janitorial staff instead A DIRECT RESULT OF INCREASED COMMUNICATION RESULTING FROM RAISED AWARENESS Waste Stream: >18% decrease Disposal Costs: 11% decrease ($137,000) Recycled Material: >10% increase Recycling Revenue: 80% increase ($41,000)
