5 IPv6: a Status Update IPv4 address exhaust in It will take many years to complete an IPv6 transition, but 2012 will be documented as the year in which CDNs shifted from trials to commercial application support. Accordingly, vendors are now accelerating delivery of IPv6 products. Immediate vendor challenges include: Seamless IPv4/IPv6 application parity. IPv4/IPv6 translation scalability.

6 Implementing Applications in the Cloud A number of drivers: Cost: Optimization of data center resources is critical to hold the line on IT spending (capex). Includes power, and administration costs (opex). On demand-access to computing resources? Application availability and scalability: Application growth requires new approaches to meet demand that standalone centers can no longer support. A shift in telco business and revenue models: XaaS, IaaS, and SaaS. A number of challenges: Meeting SLA requirements: minimize packet loss and latency. Redundancy and seamless application failover: content requirements by region.
