Baltimore Washington Medical Center was thanked for hosting the meeting and providing the excellent and healthy lunch. Meeting logistics and materials were reviewed with the meeting participants. I. Welcome, Introductions, Review of Minutes and Updates Angela Wakhweya, MD, MScEcon, Health Officer, Department of Health Welcomed Steering Committee members, introduced new members, participants, proxies and observers. The Obesity Prevention and Co-Occurring Disorders State Health Improvement Process (SHIP) Baseline and 2015 Goals were reviewed. The Standard Operating Procedures were shared with the Steering Committee and the revised Observer section was reviewed. The Steering Committee agreed by consensus to adopt the revised Standard Operating Procedures document as the official operating procedures for the Coalition going forward. The Doodle meeting time responses were reviewed and the Steering Committee agreed by consensus, after some clarification of a potential conflict with AACPS s schedule, to hold future Coalition meetings on the 4 th Wednesday of each month from 3:00 p.m. 4:30 p.m. through November II. Updates from Subcommittees A. Obesity Prevention Subcommittee Becky Asher, BSN, Deputy Director, Disease Prevention and Management Showed the Weight of the Nation Trailer to Steering Committee Members. Members encouraged to watch the four part/one hour each series that is available online at XXXXXXX 2

3 Discussed the Healthy Maryland Week Event which was held on May 29, 2012 at the Roger W. Pip Moyer Recreation Center. Governor Martin O Malley proclaimed May 29 th through June 3 rd as the Healthy Maryland Week which encourages Marylanders to lead a healthier life by promoting wellness through physical fitness, healthy food choices, and preventative care. Asked Steering Committee Members to visit the website at Reviewed the working draft of the Obesity Prevention Logic Model that includes a three pronged approach to focus on the workplace, our schools and our communities. The Subcommittee will revise and further develop it as they assess current programs, initiatives and services and what existing gaps are. Key question was how they will go about prioritizing what to fund and what to scale up: they will prioritize 1) large group, community, policy, system and environmental changes; 2) working with our public school system, medium to large employers, and community change agents; and, 3) seek out evidence based approaches and strategies currently supported by CDC, HHS and other major funders of successful pilots and initiatives. Coordinate with major stakeholders to continue to recruit representatives for the Workgroup. Will partner with the Community Outreach Subcommittee to disseminate information, reach the community, and prioritize activities. Next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2012 from 2:30 p.m. 4:00 p.m. at Anne Arundel Community College, Student Union, Room 204. All Steering Committee members and other interested parties are welcome to attend. Discuss the draft data collection tool for the inventory of existing obesity programs at the June 26, 2012 meeting. Develop project timelines, responsibilities and community resources for data collection tool. Review and discuss the Obesity Prevention Logic Model and funding opportunities. B. Co-Occurring Disorders Steering Committee Mary Whitehouse, LCSW-C, Program Manager, Adolescent and Family Services, DOH Reviewed the working draft of the Co-Occurring Disorders Logic Model with Steering Committee. Provider Survey was distributed during the week of June 18, 2012, and posted to the CSA website. The responses will be reviewed at the Change Agent meeting on July 11, The Person-Centered Planning Training was held on June 14, The American Society of Addiction Medicine training will be held on June 28-29, The Comprehensive, Continuous, Integrated System of Care training will be held on September 11-12, 2012, and the Supervisors Academy will continue throughout the year. Continue to provide technical support to agencies regarding Co-Occurring Disorders, primarily at the Change Agent level. Next Change Agent meeting is on July 11, Next Co-Occurring Disorders Steering Committee meeting is on July 13, Participate in Awareness and Anti-Stigma Campaigns in September. Collaborate with Department of Health s Office of Public Information to utilize Social Media to promote awareness. 3

4 Apply for funding opportunity from Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA): Recover-Oriented Care Model for Adolescents with Substance Use or Co-Occurring Mental Health Disorders. This grant s focus is on the Wellness Center or Club House model with services for the teenager and family. C. Joint Community Health Needs Assessment Subcommittee Vanessa Carter, MA, Chief of Administrative Services, DOH Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis is a new member of the Subcommittee. 4 th meeting was held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 with Holleran Consulting, Inc. They will conduct secondary data profiles within ; computerized key informant interviews with experts, advocates and consumer; five focus groups with 5-15 participants; and a summary report. Secondary data profile will be completed at the end of July. The key informant interviews will occur from June to September. The focus groups will occur from July to October, and the final report will occur from September to October. Asked Steering Committee about incorporating a Fort Meade representative in the Community Health Needs Assessment efforts, key informants that should be included in the survey, and additional incentives at $50 per focus group participant. Next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 via teleconference with Holleran Consulting, Inc. to discuss the Key Informant Interview Survey, category coverage and timeline adjustments. D. Community Outreach Subcommittee Yevola Peters, Special Assistant for Minority Affairs and Human Relations, Office of the County Executive, Gail Smith, Director of Human Services and ADA Coordinator, City of Annapolis Mayor s Office Responses are being received to join the Coalition Network and Community Outreach Subcommittee invitation letters sent to non-profit, community and faith-based organizations. The Subcommittee was encouraged to show one hour of the Weight of The Nation Series if their schedule allows. The Subcommittee s 1 st meeting will be on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 6:00 P.M. in room 3 at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center. E. Promotion and Publicity Subcommittee Laurie Fetterman, MSW, Health Planner, DOH (representative for Elin Jones, Public Information Officer, DOH) There was great attendance at the May Launch Event. There were several speakers, exhibits, media outlets, networking opportunities and pledges made at the Event. 4

5 Two summer projects include: press releases announcing the Community Health Needs Assessment Survey and the Co-Occurring Disorders Provider Survey. The Healthy Anne Arundel website has received a total of 1,087 views from December May 2012 with May having the highest views at 309. A [email protected] address has been established. Dates for quarterly Subcommittee meetings will be determined. F. Leadership and Finance Subcommittee Ronna Gotthainer, BA, Deputy Health Officer, Operations, DOH Held a meeting on June 12, 2012 to prepare for the Steering Committee Meeting on June 20, Discussed Coalition meeting schedule through the end of the year and determined the best meeting day was the 4 th Wednesday of each month. Discussed the Standard Operating Procedures. Focused on allowing input from Non-Steering Committee members and determined essential input would be welcomed. Decided to name all Workgroups as Subcommittees, excluding the Co-Occurring Disorders Steering Committee, since they were an existing group with an existing name. Reviewed draft Logic Models for the Obesity Prevention Subcommittee and Co-Occurring Disorders Steering Committee. Discussed the Preventive Health and Health Services Block (PHHS) Grant offered by CDC and DHMH. This is grant is intended to reduce morbidity from diabetes and cardiovascular disease through health system improvements. Announced that the Department of Health did not receive the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Transforming Care Network grant. Continue to research funding opportunities to support the Healthy Anne Arundel Coalition. Identify strategies for increasing engagement of private-sector partners. III. Announcements- Steering Committee Members and Observers Jodi Risse, MS, RD, LDN, Supervisor of Food and Nutrition Services, Public Schools Public Schools started the Summer Meal Program on Monday, June 18, There are seven sites throughout the County. All meals are free for student ages 2-18 years old. Gail Smith, Director of Human Services and ADA Coordinator, City of Annapolis Mayor s Office Dr. Angela Wakhweya met with Mayor Josh Cohen. One of the items discussed was the importance and the need to implement sustainable City Health Workplace Wellness Programs. Mayor Josh Cohen announced Brian Woodward as the new Director of the City of Annapolis Recreation and Parks. City Council voted on the nomination of Mr. Woodward for this position. He has stated that Obesity Prevention and inclusion of all City residents will be priorities. 5

6 Carolyn Ryan, Recreation Specialist, Department of Recreation and Parks Department of Recreation and Parks started their Summer Camps June 18, There spotlight summer camp initiative is Walk to London. London is 36,000 miles from. Children enrolled in the camp will attempt to walk these miles by the end of summer. IV. and Concluding Remarks Dr. Angela Wakhweya, Chair, Health Officer, DOH The next Steering Committee Meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Anne Arundel Community College. Thanked the members of the Steering Committee for their commitment to the Coalition and our common goal of improving the health of County residents. Acknowledged the excellent support of BWMC. Closing Laurie Fetterman, MSW, Health Planner, OAPR, DOH Called the meeting to close at 2:05 P.M. Thanked Baltimore Washington Medical Center for hosting the meeting, and the Steering Committee members and observers for their participation. Steering Committee members and observers were asked to ensure that they have indicated their presence at this meeting by completing the sign-in sheet.
