1 Blast February 28, 2014 Professional Learning This year, your Durham Occasional Teachers Local Executive passed a motion to provide funding for members who wish to upgrade their skills by taking PL courses or attending conferences. These upgrades should be job related and an application form will be required to submit for this funding. The PL Committee will consider and approve all applications that meet the criteria. Included with this is the Professional Learning Fund (PLF) Criteria for Application, PLF Proof of Completion, and the PLF Application Form. This will also be available on our website shortly.

5 Professional Learning Funding (PLF) Criteria for Application The ETFO Durham Occasional Teachers Local is pleased to provide funding to members for Professional Learning events. The intent of the fund is to provide monetary support to members in their pursuit of Professional Learning. The fund is overseen by the Professional Learning Committee and all questions and applications should be forwarded to the PL Committee. The budget for the Fund will be reviewed annually and funding is available as long as the budget contains sufficient money to pay successful applicants. Below are the details of what is required, what constitutes an eligible course or event, and the process for applying. 1. To be eligible for Professional Learning Funding support from the ETFO Durham Occasional Teachers Local you must currently be an occasional teacher with the Durham District School Board (DDSB) and the ETFO Durham Occasional Teachers Local for a minimum of one year and have worked at the elementary level for a minimum of twenty (20) days annually. 2. Officers and members of the ETFO Durham Occasional Teachers' Local Executive are eligible to receive Professional Learning Funding support as long as they are not part of the selection process. 3. You are eligible to again apply after a wait period of two years following the successful approval of a previous application. You may apply only once during the two year period. 4. Workshops, Seminars, and Conferences must relate directly to education and be delivered by DDSB, ETFO, or by an accredited educational institute. 5. Additional Qualification Courses are courses that will upgrade your teaching qualifications and are delivered by DDSB, ETFO, or an accredited educational institute 6. All applications are subject to approval by the Professional Learning Committee of the ETFO Durham Occasional Teachers Local. 7. The ETFO Durham Occasional Teachers Local will annually budget an amount for this fund and when this budget line is exhausted applications will no longer be accepted for that fiscal year.

6 8. Workshops, seminars, and conferences will be funded at 50% of the cost of the event to a maximum of $ Workshops, seminars, and conferences must be related to education and/or teaching. 9. AQ, University level courses, and other courses that have been approved by the Local Professional Learning Committee will be funded at 50% of the cost of the course to a maximum of $ Courses must be related to education and/or teaching. 10. Funds will be allocated in the order of receipt of applications. 11. Once an application has been approved, funds will be set aside until proof of successful completion has been submitted (see #13 below). 12. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. 13. To complete the application process and receive funds, applicants must provide proof of successful completion of the course or event by submitting to the PL Committee the appropriate form signed by the course/event instructor. In the case of an online course, a printed grade certificate would suffice. The form must be submitted within eight (8) weeks of completion of the course/event. Payment receipt(s) must also be attached. 14. Application forms and proof of attendance/successful completion forms should be sent to the Local by mail or by Durham District School Board courier service to: Boundary Road, Oshawa, ON L1J 8P8; to the attention of the Professional Learning Committee.
