1 Chris DeFeyter Professor Buns HHP Registered Nursing As a professional I have had many different aspirations as I have grown through the years. It is my ultimate goal to become a professional in a purpose that matters to people and the human race. I have been undecided in my mind towards my actual future career, I have tried Biology, and later decided it isn t exactly what I want to do with my life. Through my life s career I want to have the satisfaction of helping others wile making a decent amount of money. Exercise Science gives me a more broad range on what I can do with more of a generalized idea of what I ve wanted. My choice towards my career has been decided on nursing. I have always known I enjoy helping people, and I have skills that can be put to good use in this field such as critical thinking, communication skills, patients, compassion, and emotional stability. Personally I have shadowed personal trainers, physical education teachers, and interviewed nurses. Through my research between the three of them all I noticed nursing allows me to live where ever I want in the world, as well as helping people in their time of need, and helping them get back on top. There has been multiple people in my life that have helped with my thoughts towards this such as past nurses, and the nurses of today s generation. Professionally if I join this type of workforce I can see myself in another country

2 helping others while making a stable amount of money with good hours and a needed workforce. There are many different types of nurses in the world. The nursing position I would hope to fulfill in the future is a Registered Nurse (RN). Through this type of nursing there are different types of degrees you can get such as a bachelors degree, associates degree, or a diploma for entered level certifications into this field. The main organization in the United States for nursing is the Nations Council of State Nurses. This organizations mission said by NCLEX is provides education, service, and research through collaborative leadership to promote evidence- based regulatory excellence for patient safety and public protection. To become a certified Registered Nurse I will have to become registered for this exam, which can take up to 365 days and 200 dollars to take this test. To complete and pass the NCLEX- RN this is an examination that will test my knowledge of anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, nutrition, and some behavioral sciences all classes that must be taken for knowledge of this profession. When this exam is passed the National Council will certify me as a Registered Nurse, and allows me to practices my nursing anywhere within the United States as well as other countries that are associated with this program. The growth that is allowed form this position allows nurses to advance from assistant unit manager or head nurse to more senior- level administrative roles, such as assistant director, director, vice president, or chief of nursing. There are many different areas for Registered Nursing for finding the proper job that is wanted or desired. With the growing population nurses are needed throughout the country to help support hospitals, patients' homes, schools,

3 community centers, summer camps, military and others such as these. The renewal of Registered Nursing certification is one after the first year of graduation, and then it lasts for two years prior to the second passed exam. This is used so the nursing isn t taken advantage of and allows new standards to be implemented within a few years compared to many more. There are many different volunteer positions that allow Registered Nurses to gain quality experience. The major groups I am interested in include UN Peace Corporation, Red Cross, or American Nursing Association. These groups send nurses to different areas of the world that are in need of provided health services for training, natural disasters, extreme poverty, or to help against disease and illness. With these extreme amount of hours put onto a resume it will help insure quality hours of experience and can only help with the application process hat is required before becoming a hired employee at desired place. Professional journals are a needed resource for this field to assist current nurses or doctors with their work. There are many different journals that have extensive research done such as the journal of Lippincott, Williams, and Wilkins. This national journal assists in many different aspects with the mission statement of The mission of Nursing Research is to report empirical findings from the highest quality basic and clinical research focused on understanding health and illness experiences, and to estimate the impact of therapeutic actions and nursing systems. Searching through these online journals is convenient because they obtain hundreds of quality articles that are used towards a specific topic. Internationally the online journal that is most knows is Springerpub.com. This article is similar to Lippincott, Williams, and Wilkins journal

4 by having obscene amounts of different types of articles that can help physicians with different issues in the body as well as procedures. There are also many other known journals in both of these fields. Graduation programs that are among the top in the United Sates are also among the top colleges. It is said by Educational Graduate Schools that the best school for a nursing degree is John Hopkins University, followed closely by University of Pennsylvania, and University of Washington. The national system of ranking is based upon the GPA, as well as the quality of the schools that are outputting students ready for the workforce. These numbers are established and configured into one statistical chart that helps determine which schools are among the top of the country. All of these program s majors require all of the necessities such as anatomy and physiology, chemistry, biology, and other behavioral sciences needed to help patients during treatments and recovery. In my opinion Echo Heron is a main influence towards scholarly information in nursing. She is known as a Registered Nurse that has written many scholarly books upon the topics from critical care nursing, intensive care of nursing, as well as mysteries in the nursing world that have yet to be answered. She has decades of knowledge and first hand accounts and has shared them to the world while helping other nurses and doctors through her written pieces. Some other historically known figures in Nursing include Florence Nightingale whom was a nurse in the late eighteen hundreds that went into battle to help the British survive their early wars. She is known to be selfless, and brave to join the battlefield. Florence influenced in battle nursing for he many wars that followed every country.

5 My plan for the upcoming years in nursing includes getting my degree in nursing, as well as a minor in exercise science. Once I have achieved this goal I can take the NCLEX- RN exam and begin my work from there. After becoming a Registered Nurse I would like to join the Red Cross or UN Peace Corporation while traveling overseas to help the less fortunate in poverty stricken countries. This will help me get quality experience, and great idea of what I will be dealing with while getting into this field. Eventually I would like to settle down and obtain a Registered Nursing position at a hospital somewhere in the United States while growing throughout the years.
