2 Career and Technology Potential Dual Credit Courses Career and Technology Education offers Academic Dual Credit Courses and Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM) Dual Credit Courses for juniors and seniors. Potential Dual Credit courses cover all high school TEKS as well as equivalent curriculum for the accompanying two-year college courses. Dual Credit can be earned from one of the Alamo Colleges (Palo Alto College, St. Philip s College and San Antonio College). Palo Alto College, St. Philip s College, and San Antonio College offer different types of courses in partnership with NEISD. Acceptance of credit by other higher education institutions is up to the receiving institution. It is the student s responsibility to contact any other higher education institution in regards to acceptance of these credits. Students are allowed to take a maximum of two dual credit courses a semester. Students must qualify for admissions to the college and register by the deadline. Qualifications for admission may vary by college. NEISD reserves the right to cancel at anytime a potential dual credit course for any reason (adjunct faculty availability, lack of agreement with college, curriculum alignment, etc.). POTENTIAL DUAL CREDIT COURSE HIGH SCHOOL TYPE/COLLEGE Business Information Management I Churchill, Johnson, Madison, Reagan St. Philips College (WECM) Business Information Management II Churchill, Johnson, Madison, Reagan St. Philips College (WECM) Anatomy and Physiology Churchill, Reagan Palo Alto College (Academic) Advanced Technical Credit Program The Advanced Technical Credit (ATC) Program gives high school students a chance to receive credit at participating community colleges across Texas for taking certain enhanced technical courses during high school. All the participating community colleges have agreed to offer students credit for these courses, provided the college offers the course and the student meets certain criteria. For a high school to offer an ATC course to its students, the teacher of the course must meet the ATC teacher requirements, go through ATC training and teach the high school course so that it is enhanced to meet the content of the equivalent college course. ATC courses are only offered in technical or workforce areas - courses in academic areas such as English or history are not offered as ATC courses. The Texas Education Agency has revised the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for all Career and Technology courses as well as the course titles. These changes are effective beginning with the school year. As a result, the Advanced Technical Credit Program has not determined the courses that will qualify for ATC credit at the time of this publication. This information will be available in spring ATC courses offered by NEISD will depend on TEKS realignment, teacher certifications and notifications from the state on changes in the articulation agreements.

3 Architecture, Construction and Manufacturing Science, Technology & Math Clusters Course: ADVANCED ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN Course Description: Students gain advanced knowledge and skills specific to those needed to enter a career in architecture and construction or prepare a foundation toward a postsecondary degree in architecture, construction science, drafting, interior design, and landscape architecture. The course includes the advanced knowledge of the design, design history, techniques, and tools related to the production of drawings, renderings, and scaled models for commercial or residential architectural purposes. Student must pass safety test with 100% mastery. NEISD # 8246 Credit: 2.0 Architectural Design Course: ADVANCED INTERIOR DESIGN Course Description: This is a technical laboratory course that includes the knowledge of the employability characteristics, principles, processes, technologies, communication, tools, equipment and materials related to interior spatial design. Student must pass safety test with 100% mastery. NEISD # 8045 Credit: 1.0 Interior Design Course: ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN Course Description: Students gain knowledge and skills specific to those needed to enter a career in architecture and construction or prepare a foundation toward a postsecondary degree in architecture, construction science, drafting, interior design, and landscape architecture. This course includes the knowledge of the design, design history, techniques, and tools related to the production of drawings, renderings, and scaled models for commercial or residential architectural purposes. NEISD # 8245 Credit: 1.0 Course: CONCEPTS OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY Course Description: This course provides an overview of the various fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and their interrelationships. Students will use a variety of computer hardware and software applications to complete assignments and projects. Upon completing this course, students will have an understanding of the various fields and will be able to make informed decisions regarding a coherent sequence of subsequent courses. Further, students will have worked on a design team to develop a product or system. Students will use multiple software applications to prepare and present course assignments. Student must pass safety test with 100% mastery. NEISD # 8250 Credit: 1.0 Term: Semester Grade Placement: 9-10 Course: ENGINEERING DESIGN AND PRESENTATION Course Description: Students enrolled in this course will demonstrate knowledge and skills of the process of design as it applies to engineering fields using multiple software applications and tools necessary to produce and present working drawings, solid model renderings, and prototypes. Students will use a variety of computer hardware and software applications to complete assignments and projects. Through implementation of the design process, students will transfer advanced academic skills to component designs. Additionally, students explore career opportunities in engineering, technology, and drafting and what is required to gain and maintain employment in these areas. 4 Course: ADVANCED ENGINEERING DESIGN AND PRESENTATION Course Description: This course will provide students the opportunity to master computer software applications in a variety of engineering and technical fields. This course further develops the process of engineering thought and application of the design process. Student must pass safety test with 100% mastery. NEISD # 8253 Credit: 2.0 Engineering Design and Presentation Course: CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Course Description: Students gain knowledge and skills specific to those needed to enter the work force as carpenters or building maintenance supervisors or build a foundation toward a postsecondary degree in architecture, construction science, drafting, or engineering. This course includes the knowledge of the design techniques and tools related to the management of architectural and engineering projects. Student must pass safety test with 100% mastery. Individuals use knowledge and skills related to interior and exterior environments, construction and furnishings to make wise consumer decisions, increase productivity and compete in industry. 5 Arts, A/V Technology and Information Technology Cluster Course: ADVANCED ANIMATION Course Description: Students will use various software packages to build a role playing game using a team development approach. Teams will develop a story line and identify game requirements and rules. Students are required to develop and maintain a set of web pages documenting the development of their project. Students reflect on this knowledge as they engage in the process of recording, classifying, summarizing, analyzing, and communicating financial information. All information is applicable to profit or non-profit businesses and useful for entry-level positions. NEISD # 8301 Credit: 1.0 Course: ACCOUNTING II Course Description: Students will analyze financial information for managerial decisions. Students will also explore ratio analysis, inventory evaluation, payroll management, and end-of-the cycle adjustments and entries. All information is applicable to profit or non-profit businesses and useful for entry-level positions. NEISD # 8302 Credit: 1.0 Accounting I Course: ADVERTISING AND SALES PROMOTION Course Description: This course focuses on the concepts and skills associated with the dynamic advertising industry. Students will discover the goals and objectives of advertising, identify and analyze, select media, and develop advertisements. NEISD # 8306 Credit: 0.5 Course: BUSINESS INFORMATION MANAGEMENT I Course Description: Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society and make a successful transition to the workforce and postsecondary education. Students apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies, create word-processing documents, develop spreadsheets, formulate databases, and make electronic presentations using appropriate software. NEISD # 8291 Credit: 1.0 DUAL CREDIT Course: BUSINESS INFORMATION MANAGEMENT II Course Description: Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society and make a successful transition to the workforce or postsecondary education. Students apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies, create complex word-processing documents, develop sophisticated spreadsheets using charts and graphs, and make electronic presentations using appropriate multimedia software. Students develop a foundation in the economical, financial, technological, international, social, and ethical aspects of business to become competent managers, employees, and entrepreneurs. Students incorporate a broad base of knowledge that includes the legal, managerial, marketing, financial, ethical, and international dimensions of business to make appropriate management decisions. 8 Course: BANKING AND FINANCIAL SYSTEMS Course Description: Students develop knowledge and skills in the economical, financial, technological, international, social and ethical aspects of banking to become competent consumers, employees and entrepreneurs. Students incorporate a broad base of knowledge that includes the operations, sales and management of banking institutions to gain a complete understanding of how banks function within society. Students will learn marketing, merchandising, and customer service skills. This course is coordinated with a school based enterprise (school store). NEISD # 8308 Credit: 0.5 Course: FASHION MARKETING Course Description: This course combines the elements of advertising, design and business administration, as well as a solid understanding of the fashion world. Students will take a new fashion line and successfully promote it. NEISD # 8014 Credit: 0.5 Course: GLOBAL BUSINESS Course Description: Students apply technical skills to address global business applications of emerging technologies. Students develop a foundation in the economical, financial, technological, international, social, and ethical aspects of business to become competent consumers, employees, and entrepreneurs. Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communication, and reasoning skills and apply them to the business environment. NEISD # 8296 Credit: 0.5 Term: Semester Grade Placement: Course: PRACTICUM IN MARKETING DYNAMICS Course Description: Through course required employment, students gain knowledge and skills that help them become proficient in one or more of the marketing functional areas. Students will illustrate appropriate management and research skills to create the marketing mix. This course covers technology, communication, and customer-service skills. The practicum is designed to give students supervised practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experience. The practicum course is a paid or unpaid experience for students participating in a coherent sequence of career and technical education courses in marketing education. 9 Course: SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT MARKETING Course Description: This course will provide students with a thorough understanding of the marketing concepts and theories that apply to sports and sporting events and entertainment. The areas this course will cover include basic marketing, target\ marketing and segmentation, sponsorship, event marketing, promotions, sponsorship proposals, and implementation of sports and entertainment marketing plans. This course will also provide students an opportunity to develop promotional plans, sponsorship proposals, endorsement contracts, sports and entertainment marketing plans, and evaluation and management techniques. NEISD # 8304 Credit: 0.5 Term: Semester Placement: 9-12 Career Cluster Course: CAREER PREPARATION I Course Description: This course provides opportunities for students to participate in a learning experience that combines classroom instruction with paid business and industry employment experiences and supports strong partnerships among school, business, and community stakeholders. This instructional arrangement should be an advanced component of a student's individual program of study. Students are taught employability skills, which include job specific skills applicable to their training station, job interview techniques, communication skills, financial and budget activities, human relations, and portfolio development. Each student will have an individual training plan that will address their job specific knowledge and skills. All students must follow the Texas Education agency and NEISD guidelines for career preparation. NEISD # 8310 Credit: 3.0 Student must provide their own transportation. Course: CAREER PREPARATION II Course Description: This course develops essential knowledge and skills through classroom technical instruction and on-the-job training in an approved business and industry training area. Students will develop skills for lifelong learning, employability, leadership, management, work ethics, safety, and communication as a group; however, each student will have an individual training plan that will address job-specific knowledge and skills. Approved training sponsors will provide paid occupational training for a student. The training sponsor will assist the teacher in providing the necessary knowledge and skills for the student's specific career preparation. Each student will have an individual training plan that will address their job specific knowledge and skills. All students must follow the Texas Education agency and NEISD guidelines for career preparation. NEISD # 8311 Credit: 3.0 Career Preparation I Student must provide their own transportation. Course: PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS Course Description: This is a project-based research course for students who have the ability to research a real-world problem. Students develop a project on a topic related to career interests, use scientific methods of investigation to conduct in-depth research, are matched with a mentor from the business or professional community, compile findings, and present their findings to an audience that includes experts in the field. 10 Health Science, Law, Public Safety, Corrections, Government & Public Administration Clusters Course: ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY Course Description: Students conduct laboratory and field investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. Students study a variety of topics, including the structure and function of the human body and the interaction of body systems for maintaining homeostasis. Student must pass safety test with 100% mastery. To receive credit in science, students must meet the 40% laboratory and fieldwork requirement. NEISD # 3253 Credit: 1.0 Course: COUNSELING AND MENTAL HEALTH Course Description: Students model the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a counseling and mental health career through simulated environments. Students are expected to apply knowledge of ethical and legal responsibilities, limitations, and the implications of their actions. Professional integrity in counseling and mental health care is dependent on acceptance of ethical and legal responsibilities. NEISD # 8345 Credit: 1.0 Course: HEALTH SCIENCE (Clinical Rotation) Course Description: This course is designed to provide for the development of advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will have hands-on experiences for continued knowledge and skill development. The course may be taught by different methodologies such as clinical rotation and career preparation learning. Student must pass safety test with 100% mastery. NEISD # 8344 Credit: 2.0 Principles of Health Science Course: MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY Course Description: Students explore the microbial world, studying topics such as pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms, laboratory procedures, identifying microorganisms, drug resistant organisms and emerging diseases. Student must pass safety test with 100% mastery. To receive credit in science, students must meet the 40% laboratory and fieldwork requirement. NEISD # 3251 Credit:.05 Term: Semester Grade Placement: Course: Problems & Solutions-PHARMACOLOGY Course Description: This course provides students with the knowledge and skills in the classification and study of pharmacological agents to understand the treatment, care, and restoration of clients health. Students will learn the material to challenge (at their own expense) the Pharmacology Certification Exam upon turning 18 years of age. NEISD # 8254 Credit: 1.0 None Term: Semester Grade Placement: 12 Course: MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY Course Description: This course is designed to introduce students to the structure of medical terms, including prefixes, suffixes, word roots, combining forms, and singular and plural forms, plus medical abbreviations and acronyms. The course allows students to achieve comprehension of medical vocabulary appropriate to medical procedures, human anatomy and physiology and pathophysiology. 11 Course: PATHOPHYSIOLOGY Course Description: Students conduct laboratory and field investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. Students study disease processes and how humans are affected. Emphasis is placed on prevention and treatment of disease. Students will differentiate between normal and abnormal physiology. Student must pass safety test with 100% mastery. To receive credit in science, students must meet the 40% laboratory and fieldwork requirement. NEISD # 3252 Credit: 0.5 Term: Semester Grade Placement: Course: PRACTICUM IN HEALTH SCIENCE (Clinical Rotation-2 nd yr) Course Description: This course is designed to give students practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experience i.e. clinical rotation, CNA, etc. Student must pass safety test with 100% mastery. NEISD # 8346 Credit: 2.0 Health Science and Biology Term: Full Year Grade Placement: 12 Course: PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH SCIENCE Course Description: This course provides an overview of the therapeutic, diagnostic, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development systems of the health care industry. NEISD # 8340 Credit: 1.0 Course: PRINCIPLES OF LAW, PUBLIC SAFETY, CORRECTIONS AND SECURITY Course Description: This course is designed as a study of the history and philosophy of criminal justice and its ethical considerations. Crime is defined. Its nature and impact are explored. Instruction includes an overview of the criminal justice system, law enforcement and the court systems, a study of prosecution and defense, trial processes, and corrections and penal systems. NEISD # 8410 Credit: 0.5 Course: COURT SYSTEMS AND PRACTICE Course Description: This course is designed to familiarize a student with definitions, elements of the offense, and applications of penal statutes, history of criminal law, provisions of the Texas penal code and case law and criminal law. Students will also study the overview of the federal and state court systems. Students will explore the roles and members of courtroom work groups and communication skills needed for courtroom policies and procedures. NEISD # 8412 Credit: 1.0 Course: LAW ENFORCEMENT Course Description: This course is an overview of the history, organization and functions of local, state and federal law enforcement. This course includes the role of constitutional law, the United States legal system, criminal law, law enforcement terminology and the classification and elements of crime. NEISD # 8413 Credit: 1.0

12 Human Services, Hospitality and Education Clusters Course: CHILD DEVELOPMENT Course Description: This technical laboratory course addresses knowledge and skills related to child growth and development from prenatal through school-age children, equipping students with child development skills. Students use these skills to promote the well-being and healthy development of children and investigate careers related to the care and education of children. NEISD # 8026 Credit: 0.5 Course: CHILD GUIDANCE Course Description: This technical laboratory course addresses knowledge and skills related to child growth and guidance equipping students to develop positive relationships with children and effective caregiver skills. Students use these skills to promote the wellbeing and healthy development of children, strengthen a culturally diverse society and pursue careers related to the care, guidance and education of children, including those with special needs. Observation may be required. Child Development Associate (CDA) license may be available. NEISD # 8025 Credit: 0.5 Course: INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICE IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING (Ready, Set, Teach) Course Description: This field-based internship provides students with background knowledge of child and adolescent development as well as principles of effective teaching and training practices. Students work under the joint direction and supervision of both a teacher with knowledge of early childhood education and exemplary educators or trainers in direct instructional roles with elementary-, middle school- and high school-aged students. Students learn to plan and direct individualized instruction and group activities, prepare instructional materials, develop materials for educational environments, assist with record keeping and complete other responsibilities of teachers, trainers, paraprofessionals or other educational personnel. Course: LIFETIME NUTRITION AND WELLNESS Course Description: This laboratory course allows students to use principles of lifetime wellness and nutrition to help them make informed choices that promote wellness as well as pursue careers related to hospitality and tourism, education, training, human services and health sciences.
