3 Introduction to Simplify Monitoring 11.4 Simplify Monitoring from Tricerat is ushering in a new paradigm in managing the complexity in XenApp and XenDesktop environments. The solution has been architected based on the input from customers, technology and service provider partners like Citrix as well as integrators. We have listened to the difficulties they all have managing virtual desktop environments, specifically XenApp and XenDesktop, and the limited management tools available to them. Simplify Monitoring 11.4 delivers significant proactive monitoring and troubleshooting enhancements for the users of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop. The solution now gives greater clarity and understanding to IT professionals tasked with delivering end- user experiences through XenApp and XenDesktop, by enabling new drill down and correlation enhancements which link applications/user/server performance. XenApp and XenDesktop which allows quickly pinpoints points of failure, enables quick troubleshooting and delivers proactive remediation and alerting capabilities for the entire XenApp and XenDesktop environment keeping virtual application and desktop sessions running smoothly without interruption. Simplify Monitoring Evaluation License Simplify Monitoring s Evaluation allows you to configure every aspect of the product without limitation including hypervisor integration, agent deployments, XenApp & XenDesktop integration, building custom dashboards, alerting, reporting, and more. 5 Simplify Monitoring Installation Prerequisites Note: On Windows Server 2012,.NET 3.5 SP1 needs to be installed from the Features Wizard as.net 4.5 is not backwards compatible. SM can be accessed over the network or WAN to your local computer. Table 1 - Simplify Monitoring System Requirements Simplify Monitoring Server Platform: Virtual Machine or Physical Server OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 2012R2 32bit/64bit Network: Static IP Address vcpu: Minimum of 4 vcpus Memory: Minimum of 8 GB Memory Disk: 25 GB of Disk Space Dependencies:.NET 3.5 SP1 Firewall Database Agent VMware Citrix XenServer Citrix XenApp & XenDesktop Simplify Monitoring Server: TCP ports 80 & 82 both must be open inbound; and port 80 must be enabled outbound for remote access to the console. Systems with Agents Deployed: TCP port 82 must be open outbound Note: These ports can be changed from the default as needed Embedded: Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 Express Version: Microsoft SQL from , including SQL Express *Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 Express database is the embedded database included with Simplify Monitoring Note: Environments larger than 150 monitored devices require Microsoft SQL Server. Customers Evaluating with XenApp & XenDesktop should use full Microsoft SQL. Platform: Virtual Machine or Physical Server OS: Windows NT SP6a and Newer; Unix/Linux, and Mac Performance Specs: 0.1% CPU, 1.5 MB size on Disk, ~24 MB RAM/~50 MB RAM on XenApp API Integration: Service account with admin rights VMware ESX/ESXi Version: 4.0 to 5.5 API Integration: Root account needed XenServer Version: 5.5 and newer Citrix Versions: XenApp XenDesktop XenApp/XenDesktop 7.x:.Net 3.5 SP1 and Service Account with Citrix Admin Rights for the Simplify Monitoring Agent required on the broker XenApp: Powershell 2.0 needed. For XenApp 7.x.NET 3.5 needed on all Windows 2012 session hosts. XenDesktop VDI: Powershell 2.0 needs to be installed. For XenDesktop 7.x.NET 3.5 needed on all Windows 8 10 Virtual Desktops. Note: Full Microsoft SQL suggested for XenApp & XenDesktop deployments 5

6 Environment Prerequisites Prior to installing Simplify Monitoring and configuring it for your environment, we suggest you gather and have available the following infrastructure details, authentication credentials, and network traffic rules prepared to facilitate implementation. 1. Infrastructure o Have available IP Addresses and hostnames/fqdn to: vcenter(s) XenServer Pool Master(s) XenApp: Data Collector Network Network Device Management IP address SNMP community string Configure device to send SNMP & Syslog to Simplify Monitoring o SMTP Server Address o If configuring remote environment, WAN IP of site where Simplify Monitoring will be deployed 2. Authentication o Domain Administrator credentials for Windows Servers o root credentials for any Linux/Unix systems o VMWare vcenter user with Administrator rights o XenServer Pool Master user with administrator rights or root user 3. Network Security o If internal traffic exceptions/routing is necessary, Simplify Monitoring agents maintain a TCP connection on port 82 o If administrators will be accessing Simplify Monitoring from their desktops then an exception for TCP traffic on 80 is necessary o For communication to Master Agents and agents deployed to remote environments Simplify Monitoring will need a NAT policy for port 82 back to the Simplify Monitoring server. 6
