4 Getting Started This guide will help you configure virtual environment, Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop or application monitoring on your VMs and Servers. If your environment is virtualized, it is recommended to begin by configuring virtual environment monitoring, and then configuring XenApp, XenDesktop and/or application monitoring of the VMs. Contact if you have any questions along the way. A. Configure the Virtual Environment 1. From the First-Time Run Wizard, select the icon for Virtual Server 2. Select the appropriate hypervisor and then Next 3. Fill in the proper credentials. Select Next once completed 4. Choose which hosts are to be added to monitoring select Next 5. Review the results of adding your virtual hosts and select Finish 6. You will then be able to choose if you would like to add more items to the inventory, install agents to the virtual servers you just added, or start monitoring. 7. When all items are complete, can you select start monitoring and it will direct you to the Dashboard where you can begin monitoring the health and performance of your environment B. Configure Citrix XenApp & XenDesktop Environments 1. From the First-Time Run Wizard, select the icon for XenApp & XenDesktop 2. Select the appropriate solution and then Next 3. Fill in the proper credentials. Select Next once completed 4. Agents will deploy onto the server automatically, once installed select Next 5. You will be asked if you would like to add in Role Servers. Select Next once completed or select Next to skip this step and continue on. 6. When all items are complete, can you select Finish and it will direct you to the Dashboard where you can begin monitoring the health and performance of your environment. If you would like to add more items to your inventory select Configure More A. Deploy Agents to Windows Virtual Machines & Physical Servers 1. From the Configure>Setup page, select Physical Servers and Workstations 2. Identify your operating system and select Verify Agent 3. If your system is not listed in the Server/Workstations Tree, you will need to install an Agent by selecting Install Agent Note: If it is listed, then the Agent is already installed 4. Specify the types of systems you wish to deploy agents to, the Discovery Method you wish to use, and then select Start Discovery to begin finding systems Note: It is advised to perform a search by domain/workgroup first 5. Follow the steps on the screen to select systems, provide authentication, and ultimately deploy the agents 6. Review the status of your deployment and select Finished 4

5 B. Navigating MonitorIT This brief introduction will assist in the navigation and utilizing the robust functionality of the MonitorIT application. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with this quick introduction. 1. Configure Tab: Access configuration guides for your entire virtual environment from Setup, see and manage your Inventory, adjust and deploy Monitoring Rules, configure alert notifications, and organize your systems into Groups. 2. Monitor Tab: Breakdown and isolate performance issues in your environment by getting quick feedback from the heat map on the Dashboard and then drilling into performance trends and alerts all from the same place! Also you can track CPU, Memory, local drive, and Virtual Storage utilization from each one of those perspectives. Also track the uptime, Availability, and latency to servers, devices, and internet resources. 3. View Tab: Gain visibility into key metrics across your entire infrastructure from Performance Graphs using out-of the-box dashboards and charts or building custom ones of your own. Drill into XenApp Session information to trend user behavior as they access resources across your farm to guide your focus on the Dashboard. View SNMP Traps as they are sent by devices, or track Registry changes on your servers. 4. Report Tab: You can easily Schedule or View any of our built-in reports or Manage data sets for custom performance reports. Report on everything from IOPs to system uptime and availability, or failed user logon to fulfill auditing requirements. 5. Log Management Tab: The Event Log & Syslog management functionality give you the ability to filter, parse and export any triggered or archived Event Log or Syslog message by Type, Log, Server/Computer Name, Source, Event ID, Date/Time, Severity, and User Name. 5
