2 NSLDS Reporting O Institutions are required to report enrollment data and gainful employment data to NSLDS. O Requirements differ for each data type. O Enrollment reporting is a snapshot of data reported multiple times per year. O GE reporting is a summary of data that is reported once per year. Enrollment Reporting to NSLDS * Guidelines for reporting effective October
3 Why to Report O To support the 150% Direct Subsidized Loan Limit Rules O Protects interest subsidy for students with accurate enrollment and completion data O Protects grace periods by reporting exactly when students have left school O Timely receipt of in-school deferments minimizes unnecessary request of deferment forms by servicers Why to Report O Allows servicers to properly assist student throughout life cycle of loan O Technical defaults by transfer students are prevented New school reports enrollment and student enters deferment O Future focus on academic outcomes Are students that receive Title IV aid successful? A new measure by NSLDS. 3
4 Enrollment Reporting Flow School sends Enrollment School Code on disbursement records to COD. COD reports this data to NSLDS and Servicers. Servicers report loan data to NSLDS. NSLDS uses enrollment school code and program data to place Title IV recipients on Enrollment Rosters. NSLDS sends Enrollment Roster to School builds a list of enrolled students School responds by certifying enrollment of students and adding new Title IV aid recipients to roster. Reporting Deadlines O Certify and return NSLDS rosters within 15 days of receipt. O Correct errors within 10 days of receipt of the Error Acknowledgement file. O Report enrollment data to NSLDS at least every 60 days. O Verify that third party servicers are reporting the required data within the required timeframe 4
5 Who to Report O All students receiving Title IV aid currently and previously that are enrolled O Add aid recipients to roster if the students are not already on the roster O All students that received Title IV aid and have had a change in enrollment status O Graduates and withdrawals must be reported twice. Who to Report O Report multiple records per student if attending more than one program one for each program O Students should be reported at two locations of the same 8-digit OPEID ONLY IF the student is actually attending both locations O If the student is not enrolled at both locations, report the correct location for the student O Report the campus student is physically attending 5

17 Gainful Employment Programs O The HEA provides that to be Title IV eligible an educational program must be offered by: O A public or non-profit postsecondary educational institution and leads to a degree; or O Any institution, if the program prepares students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation. Generally, all nondegree programs must lead to gainful employment. Generally, all programs at forprofit institutions must lead to gainful employment. Why to Report - GE O Data used to calculate a series of metrics including Debt-to-Earnings ratios. O Debt-to-Earnings ratio will determine if the program leads to gainful employment and determine eligibility for Title IV funding. 17
18 GE Reporting Deadlines O July 31, 2015 O Report through award years O Programs with medical and dental residencies report through O October 1, 2015 O Report award year O Report each award year by October 1 following completion of the award year. O Files must be submitted and free from errors on these dates. Preliminary submissions should begin earlier Who to Report - GE O ONLY submit data on student who were enrolled in a GE program O ONLY submit data on Title IV aid recipients (exclude recipients that only received FWS or FSEOG) O ONLY submit data for programs that exist as of July 1, 2015 O Data submitted in 2011 will not be available to schools. 18
19 Who to Report - GE O All Title IV students enrolled in GE Programs O A student enrolled in more than one GE Program must be reported separately for each program O A student who withdrew and re-entered the same GE program during the same award year must be reported separately for each enrollment O A student who was enrolled in the same GE Program during multiple award years must be reported separately for each award year. 22 What to Report - GE O Financial Data for Students O Only reported if student has graduated or withdrawn O Include total loan debt received for entire time of attendance in program, not just current award year What to Report - GE O Financial Data for Students O Private Loan Amount O Institutional Debt O Tuition and Fees Amount report the actual amount billed to student, not estimate in cost of attendance or catalog O Allowance for Books, Supplies, and Equipment usually reported as allowance in cost of attendance, unless school assesses a higher value of actual expenses New 22

Example 1 James started his Auto Mechanics GE Program course on May 15, 2010 and finished it on June 20, 2011, without taking any time off. So, he was enrolled in the program in Award Year and Award Year O How many years will be reported to NSLDS? O What will the reported program status be in 09-10? What will the status be in 10-11? (E, W, G) O Which year will loan debt data be reported? 23
