In both cases, sporting elegance and outstanding performance are especially important. The words spoken in 1988 by Chopard Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele himself a dedicated car enthusiast upon launching the first Mille Miglia collection ring as true today as ever. The brand s participation in many famous rallies embodies a unique relationship between Chopard and racing. The Classic Racing collection stems from the passion nurtured by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele for historical cars and for motorsports in general. Despite its early involvement in motorsports being limited to supplying relatively small engines to racing underdogs up until the late 1960s, by the mid-1950s Porsche had already tasted moderate success in the realm of sports car racing, most notably in the Carrera Panamericana and Targa Florio, classic races which were later used in the naming of street cars. The Porsche 917 of 1969 turned the manufacturer into a powerhouse, winning in 1970 the first of over a dozen 24 Hours of Le Mans, more than any other company. With the 911 Carrera RS and the 935 Turbo, Porsche dominated the 1970s, including in the sports prototypes category in which it entered the successful 936, 956 and 962 models. Le Mans is the most famous long-distance race in the world, marked by sportsmanship and a quest to make automobile history. The Porsche 917 is considered one of the most iconic racing cars of all time and gave the German manufacturer its first 24 Hours of Le Mans win in The history of Porsche Motorsport is inseparable from another motorsports legend: Jacky Ickx. Now equipped with specially decorated in-house movements, they are intended for devotees of fine watchmaking capable of taming the inevitable feeling of power they procure. The models carry a number of references to the world of competitive car racing, starting with the dial displaying brushed silver-toned vertical lines against a black background evoking the cooling fins found on air-cooled racing engines. On the inner bezel ring of the Superfast watches, the minute numerals adopt the appearance of the markers that adorn sports-car rev-counters and speedometers. The hour, minute and seconds counters provide the legibility required in tense situations. Equipped with folding clasps, the natural rubber strap carries the smooth tread of the slick tyres immediately identifiable with high-speed track motor racing, a world referenced by a multitude of other elements such as the Classic Racing collection s steering wheel logo on the rubber-moulded crown, the grooves engraved on the sides of the lugs and continuing the Superfast s cooling-fin theme, rubber-coated pushers for better grip, as well as the Allen screws on the bezel inspired by those on car-wheel rims.

7 Superfast & Porsche Motorsport 12 Superfast & Porsche Motorsport 13 POWERED BY CHOPARD IN-HOUSE CALIBRES The sporty, sophisticated, powerful and imposing Superfast timepieces are equipped with Chopard movements from the Fleurier Ebauches workshops. These exceptional creations represent a further step along the path towards independence an ideal deeply cherished by Chopard. The Fleurier Ebauches workshops were founded by Chopard in July 2008 in Fleurier, in the Val-de-Travers region (Canton Neuchâtel) in order to produce in-house movements for Chopard. Several months earlier, in December 2007, Chopard had acquired a 6,000 m 2 plot of land that already housed an industrial building with a 5,100m 2 production surface area. Entirely renovated and equipped with stateof-the-art machinery, the new company premises were inaugurated in February Similarly to the watches themselves, the movements have been specially prepared for the race. All the bridges are open-worked with thin parallel lines in the style of cooling vents on sports cars an unusual finish which allows the inner workings of the movement to be tirelessly admired through the transparent case-back. Housed in the Superfast Chrono, the Chopard Calibre M, a mechanical self-winding movement powers displays of the hours, minutes, small seconds at 6 o clock, a window-type date between 4 and 5 o clock, as well as a flyback chronograph with sweep seconds hand, minute counter at 3 o clock and hour counter at 9 o clock. This calibre is chronometer-certified by the COSC. It has a comfortable 60-hour power reserve and comprises the key features of high-end chronographs, since the fully integrated complication operates with a column-wheel system and a vertical coupling clutch.

8 Superfast & Porsche Motorsport 14 Superfast & Porsche Motorsport 15 PORSCHE 919 LIMITED EDITION On the occasion of Porsche s return to Le Mans, Chopard unveiled last year a special Porsche 919 limited edition based on the Superfast Chrono bodywork. Its dial echoes different details of the Porsche 919 Hybrid, which competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship, with the additional cross-cuts between the vertical grooves recalling the design of the rear diffuser. Stamped with the 919 logo at 9 o clock, the silver colour is reminiscent of the prestigious Porsche colour. The black and red touches perfectly match the hybrid race car. On the back, the Official Timing Partner Porsche Motorsport logo proudly appears on the glass. Thanks to this arena case-back, the Chopard movements and its exclusive open-worked bridges can still be easily admired. This exceptional model is of course a limited and numbered series of 919.

His career is impressive not only in terms of his many victories, but also because of the large variety of disciplines in which this exceptional sportsman distinguished himself. These included Formula 1 motor racing, car rallies, and above all the endurance races that forged his formidable reputation especially after winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans race six times, a feat that earned him the nickname Monsieur Le Mans. This gifted driver is also a gentleman who has made his mark on the automobile world thanks to his fair-play and elegance. It was thus in tribute to both his human and professional qualities that Chopard chose to create a limited edition bearing his name. 11 Superfast & Porsche Motorsport : FIRST VICTORY IN LE MANS... DOWN TO THE WIRE! The 240,000 spectators are in the grandstands, the cars are lined up at an angle on one side of the track and all the drivers are preparing to rush to their speed machines and hop in. All, except one. To protest against this type of start that he viewed as dangerous and pointless within the context of a 24-hour race (with drivers hurtling off at dizzying speeds without buckling their safety belts, a precaution sometimes not taken until the end of the first relay stage), the Belgian driver decides to walk to his GT40. A page in the history of Le Mans was thus turned and the rules were modified the following year to feature drivers already seated in the lined-up cars.

The 919 is equipped with a 2-litre V4 turbocharged petrol engine with an output of more than 500 hp, which powers the rear axle, and an electric motor with over 400 hp that drives the front wheels. The vehicle s lower weight and improved overall rigidity, as well as optimisations made to the suspension and aerodynamics, improved the handling of the endurance racing car. Despite the significant weight reductions, the engineers were still able to make certain key components more robust. 17 Superfast & Porsche Motorsport 33 PORSCHE MOTORSPORT SEALS A HISTORIC 17 TH DOUBLE VICTORY AT THE 24 HOURS OF LE MANS 2015 AS OFFICIAL TIMING PARTNER, CHOPARD CONGRATULATES PORSCHE MOTORSPORT FOR ITS VICTORY After celebrating a double podium at Spa Francorchamps, the three Porsche teams campaigned for victory at the legendary Le Mans race in front of 263,500 spectators. This year, Porsche reaffirmed its historic supremacy in motorsport and endurance racing 17 years after the last victory of the firm in Le Mans and exactly 45 years after Porsche s first overall win at La Sarthe was achieved. The three LMP1 Porsche 919 Hybrids driven by Nico Hülkenberg, Mark Webber and Romain Dumas started from the first three places on the grid. After clocking up 395 laps in a demanding 24 hours, they crossed the finish line first, second and fifth, sealing an outstanding double victory for the team. Furthermore, Nico Hülkenberg became the first driver to win Le Mans overall at a first attempt since Laurent Aiello in No other manufacturer than Porsche has managed to win the world s toughest endurance race so many times and is so closely connected to the myth of Le Mans.
