(For Transfer Students) The Academic Advisement Report (AAR) displays your articulated transfer courses and how they fall into UB General Education and departmental requirements. This is a tool for graduation; aspects of this report may change as you progress in your completion of degree requirements. The Academic Advisement Report (AAR) contains the following pieces of information about your degree requirements: - Course History - University Requirements for Graduation - General Education Requirements - Courses Not Allocated to Major, Minor or General Education Requirements - Major Acceptance Criteria - Major Requirements See the Appendix for further information. Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 1
Report Heading The title of your report includes important information about your Person Number and your Academic Record. What-If Report/Career Simulation Report is the type of Advisement Report that you are looking at. This Advisement Report is stating that if you were a UB student, and your transfer courses were UB courses, then this is how they would fall into UB requirements. Below the title of the report is the date that the report was produced. Also, included in the title heading is your name and person number. This number is incredibly important and confidential. The titles Program, Requirement Term, and Requirement Status all refer to your Student Record: Undergraduate Career = you are currently an undergraduate student Arts & Sciences Bachelor Program = you are currently a student in the College of Arts and Sciences History INT BA Major = you are currently an Intended History Major (INT = Intended) Requirement Term = the year you entered UB as a student, and the year you entered the major Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 2
Course History The Course History displays all of the courses you have completed. The courses listed are the UB courses that your transfer credits were articulated to. The Term associated with your transfer coursework will always record the semester you entered UB. The Academic Advising Report (AAR) is only concerned with what your courses articulated to at UB. For information about when you actually took the courses, refer to your Transfer Credit Summary. The Course # will always be the UB Course 999TR = departmental/elective credit This simply means that your transfer course did not directly articulate to a UB course; however it may still be used as an elective. TR 999TR = Transfer Elective Credit This means that your transfer course did not directly articulate to a UB course. However, you still received credit for this course and it will count towards your Overall Units Required for Graduation. The Units include the credit hours for each course. The Type means the type of course: TR = Transfer (See the Appendix for more Types of courses) The Course Title includes the UB course title as well as any Repeat Codes assigned to your transfer courses. Repeat Code RGPA RNOG RTRN RTRC Repeat Description Repeated, Included in GPA Repeated, Excluded from GPA Repeated, Excluded from GPA (Transfer) Repeated, Included from GPA (Transfer) The Grade includes the grade you received for your transfer course Transfer grades will always have T or M in front of your actual grade T = Transfer M = Averaged Grade If 2 of your transfer courses articulated to 1 UB course; the grades from the 2 courses were averaged. The M would appear in front of the averaged grade. Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 3
University Requirements for Graduation This area lists the graduation requirements for UB. The Academic Advisement Report (AAR) is a tool to help you successfully navigate the degree requirements for your major. If you have questions about your report, contact your Academic Advisor. The University Requirements for Graduation will track any courses that have specific limitations. For example: Athletics and Tutorial Coursework Displays the GPA Requirements - Overall GPA = Combined GPA (UB + Transfer GPA) - UB GPA - Transfer GPA = cumulative GPA of all transfer institutions as evaluated by UB Displays the Unit Requirements Overall Units Completed =total number of units transferred to UB - Courses Used show the courses that were included in the calculation of the units Residency Units Completed = total number of Units at UB Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 4
General Education The area tracks your progress towards completion of the General Education requirements. Here, you may see your transfer courses (articulated to UB courses) fulfilling areas. Also, you may see areas waived based on GETA waivers (described in more detail below). When a requirement is NOT satisfied, you will see NO next to the heading as well as the Not Satisfied notation in red and bold. When a requirement is satisfied (or fulfilled), you will see OK next to the heading as well as Satisfied in bold. The RG, RQ and LN numbers are reference numbers for UB staff. Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 5
General Education: Skills Placement There are 2 sections which may display on your Academic Advising Report (AAR). The titles are Writing Skills Placement and Mathematical Sciences Placement. Your placement is dependent upon whether or not you submitted SAT or ACT scores. (If you did not submit any scores, and have yet to complete this requirement; contact the Writing Composition Program. ( Use the information provided in this area to determine UB courses which are deemed appropriate to fulfill this requirement based on your preparation. WRITING SKILLS PLACEMENT: MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES PLACEMENT: Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 6
General Education: Requirements The following requirements make up UB s General Education Program: - Writing Skills - Library Skills - Mathematical Sciences - World Civilizations - Natural Sciences - American Pluralism o Or completion of a cognate - Social and Behavioral Sciences - Language - Humanities - Arts - Depth o Completion of 1 of the following categories: Language, Mathematical Sciences, Undergraduate College, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 7
General Education: Fulfillment of Requirements The General Education Requirements may be fulfilled in the following ways: - Satisfaction of the requirement by a UB or transfer course - Waiver based on a course taken at a previously attended SUNY institution (GETA Waiver) - Exception approved by UB department In this example, the Writing Skills Requirements has been fulfilled by transfer courses which have been articulated to UB courses. As previously noted: TA represents the grade of Transfer A TR (Type of Course) = Transfer Course **For information about your articulation, please see your Transfer Credit Summary. Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 8
In this example, the Social and Behavioral Sciences requirement has been Waived because the student completed this at a previous SUNY institution. In this example, the Depth requirement has not been fulfilled and is Not Satisfied. For information on what courses could fulfill this requirement, contact your Academic Advisor to assist you with planning. **Language study is NOT required for all majors; your Language requirement may be fulfilled based on your major of study. 10 Courses Not Allocated to Major, Minor or General Education Requirements The Courses Not Allocated section collects the courses which are not being used toward your major, minor or General Education requirements. Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 10
Acceptance Criteria Every undergraduate major contains prerequisites required for admission into the major. This area identifies those prerequisites. The department will provide instruction about HOW to apply to the major in this area. Most often, transfer courses are allowed to fulfill prerequisite requirements. (See the Undergraduate Catalog for specific Departmental Transfer Policies.) Also, a minimum GPA is often part of the prerequisite requirements for the major. Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 11
Major Requirements The following area defines the requirements for your major. (2010-Present) = the Catalog Year for your major. The Catalog Year is determined by when you are accepted to the major. Courses = the total number of courses required for the major. History Intended Plan Notice This message appears when you are an intended major. Once you become an approved major, this message no longer appears. History Level Requirements This is the start of the departmental-specific requirements. Last changed on:2/15/2011 3:30:00 PM Page 12
