4 WeCare Message WeCare of South Dade is proud to present the eighth edition of the Homestead/ Florida City Social Services Directory! The purpose of this directory is to inform the community of the current social and human services available in Homestead and Florida City. If you know of a human services organization in Homestead/Florida City that should have been listed, please provide us with the appropriate information and we will be sure to include them in the next edition. We hope that this directory enhances communication, promotes agency collaboration and improves service coordination in Deep South Dade. Communication, Collaboration, Coordination - the WeCare way! How to Use This Directory The directory is divided into two sections to assist you with identifying services in Deep South Dade. The first section is an index of services for Child & Youth Services, Education & Training, Family Support, Finance & Financial Aid, Food Banks & Meal Programs, Health & Medical Care, Housing, Legal and Senior Citizens. Within these general categories are subcategories (e.g. after school programs, counseling, financial assistance) and a list of agencies that provide the related services. So, for example, if you need to know what organizations provide rental assistance, a list can be found under Housing. The second part of the directory is an alphabetical listing of service providers with contact information. Index to services and related providers Alphabetical listing of service providers CIty of Homestead and City of Florida City Departments Helpful Numbers... Back cover About WeCare WeCare began as a community-organizing model developed by public school and law enforcement leaders in the mid-1980s. Of the seven chapters initiated countywide, the Homestead/Florida City Chapter is the only one still active. It was designed to bring together representatives from local social service agencies in an effort to network and share information. Today, WeCare has more than 100 active members that include social service providers, educators, businesses, ministers, and residents. Our members represent every aspect of human service - health, education, emergency shelter and assistance, childhood development, entrepreneur training, domestic abuse, farm worker aid, elder care, and many more Directory 1
5 WeCare aims to engage broad sectors of the community to increase the availability and quality of services to the area; identify and advocate ways to improve/maintain equitability of services; promote communication between groups; and disseminate information that will benefit the community. WeCare meets the first Thursday of every month at 9:00 am. Membership Our members enjoy great networking, receive information on grants and other funding sources, technical training, a copy of the South Dade Social Services Directory as well as a WeCare Directory, and monthly newsletter about community happenings, opportunities and activities. Our members appreciate free marketing of agency events, activities and needs and benefit from longterm partnerships with other members. Joining is easy. Just attend a monthly meeting and complete the information sheet. There is no fee for membership.
