About Easter Seals Our mission is to provide exceptional services to ensure that people with disabilities and their families have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities. We are the most comprehensive provider of pediatric developmental services in the central Illinois region, providing specialized therapies to help children communicate, improve their mobility, interact with others, and cope with differences. Easter Seals provides services for children from birth to age 21. Our credentialed and licensed therapists specialize in pediatric services and are enrolled as providers for Early Intervention and major insurance companies. Easter Seals is accredited by CARF International in Outpatient Medical Rehabilitation Pediatric Specialty Programs and Behavioral Supports for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

4 THE AUTISM PROGRAM Today, one in every 68 children is diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, making autism the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States. Early diagnosis and treatment are associated with dramatically better outcomes and are essential for future success. The Autism Program at Easter Seals provides high-quality, comprehensive autism services for children and their families. Autism Helpline Toll Free Comprehensive Autism Services The Autism Diagnostic Clinic is a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive medical evaluation and administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2). It may also include communication and occupational therapy evaluations. Our diagnostic professionals are prepared to provide appropriate differential diagnosis. If it is not autism, we will identify the disorder and provide resources to support progress. Families leave the clinic with a short written summary and receive a comprehensive diagnostic report 30 days following the clinic. Referrals to the Clinic must come from a physician, and a child receives an autism screening prior to diagnostic scheduling. Autism Resource Centers are all-inclusive, trusted resources for Autism information and referral services across the lifespan. The resource centers, located at the Peoria and Bloomington Centers contain a number free resources and items available for loan. Please call before visiting. Applied Behavior Analysis Services reduce a specific problem behavior through Focused behavioral services or Discrete Trial techniques to teach complicated skill sets. ABA Services may be provided in the home, school, or at one of our Easter Seals centers. Educational Behavior Evaluations are offered for children ages 3 to 21 with interventions designed to ensure academic, social, behavioral, and emotional success in educational environments. Evaluations are provided by a school psychologist with more than 30 years of educational experience.

5 New Diagnosis Family Orientation Program provides information on autism spectrum disorders, interventions for autism, and community resources for parents and families. Sessions are free of charge and registration is required. Meets 9:00-11:00 a.m. Peoria Center Bloomington Center Friday, October 23, 2015 Saturday, September 12, 2015 Saturday, December 12, 2015 Friday, November 6, 2015 Friday, February 12, 2016 Saturday, January 15, 2016 The P.L.A.Y. Project (DIR Intervention) teaches parents and caregivers by coaching and modeling unique therapeutic techniques to elicit social interaction, joint attention, and shared enjoyment. P.L.A.Y. is a family-focused, intensive, effective, and affordable intervention for young children with autism. The Autism Learning Center is an intensive therapeutic autism program for children ages 3 to 6 who have a medical diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. In a preschool-type environment that is developed and monitored by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, children gain academic, social and emotional skills through structure and play. The Autism Learning Center is located at the Peoria Center and is covered by most insurance companies. Meets Mondays and Wednesdays. Morning and afternoon sessions available. Fall Semester August 10 - December 21, :30-11:30 a.m. or 1:30-4:30 p.m. Spring Semester January 11 - May 18, :30-11:30 a.m. or 1:30-4:30 p.m. Autism programs partially funded by

6 GROUP, AQUATIC & SPECIALTY PROGRAMS NEW! Position to Play & Eager Explorers are early intervention motor groups that assist children ages 0-3 years to develop and best utilize individual motor skills to promote play, safe environment exploration, and interaction with others. Support is provided to caregivers to better help each child in basic activities and family routines. Meets Tuesday afternoons at Jump Start Gymnastics in Peoria. Call Easter Seals for more information and to register. NEW! BrainPaint is a completely holistic neurofeedback system that helps the brain function more effectively and efficiently through guided brain function training. This enhances the brain s function through its regulation of thoughts, feelings and focus. Available at the Peoria and Bloomington Centers. Toddler Talk is an early intervention language group for families who are interested in learning new ways to support their child s language growth and development. Meets Thursdays from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Northminster Church in Peoria. Call Easter Seals to register. Heart to Hands Infant Massage is a simple and meaningful practice of purposeful touch. It is a non-verbal way to say I love you, I value you, I treasure you. It provides all the essential indicators of intimate parentinfant bonding and attachment. Focused sessions include Prenatal Infant Massage Instruction and Parent and Baby Massage Instruction. Group classes and private in-home instruction are available. Call Easter Seals to register. The Parent Education Program is free for any parent or caregiver who has a child with special needs. Programs are offered at the Peoria Center and childcare is available. Ask about Easter Seals respite nights and special holiday events for children with special needs and their siblings. Available at both centers.

7 Therapeutic Fitness Center is for school-age children and older individuals with disabilities. Programs are designed and supervised by the Easter Seals physical therapy staff at the Peoria Center. $50 per month for one hour a week or $75 per month for two hours a week. Ask about our discounted annual rate. Thursday 4:00-6:00 p.m. Orofacial Anomalies Clinic offers a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of cleft lip or palate, speech problems, ear deformities or other conditions. The Orofacial Anomalies Team meets the second Friday of each month at the Peoria Center. Call Dr. Eric Elwood at to schedule a visit. Aquatic Program The uniquely designed warm water pool at the Peoria Center is fully accessible with water depths ranging from 3 to 5 feet and a water temperature maintained at degrees. Visit our website for class descriptions, schedules, and online registration. The warm water pool is also available for private rental and a great place to host your next party. Rental includes use of the pool, locker room facilities and a lifeguard. Perfect for birthday parties, family gatherings, celebrations and more! Developmental Screenings for children birth to 5 years offer a brief snapshot of overall development to identify potential delays. Call the Easter Seals Center nearest you to schedule an appointment. 8 Ray and Kathy LaHood Center for Cerebral Palsy The Ray and Kathy LaHood Center for Cerebral Palsy represents a collaboration among Easter Seals Central Illinois, the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, Children s Hospital of Illinois, Bradley University, and service providers throughout the region. The Center provides a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for children with cerebral palsy and their families. All therapists have specialized training in working with children with a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. Therapy services include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Feeding Therapy, Aquatic Therapy, Counseling, Developmental Therapy, and the Therapeutic Fitness Center, along with the following specialty services: Assistive Technology Clinic and Resource Services offer evaluations and fittings for positioning and mobility devices such as bath chairs, car seats, customized wheel chairs and seating systems, feeder seats, standers, strollers, and walkers. Orthotics Clinic offers custom fitted, prescribed orthotic braces to provide stability, support and proper positioning of the feet and ankles during standing and walking. Serial Casting is a specialized strategy used to address decreased movement in the ankles or legs and muscle tightness. Constraint Induced Movement Therapy is a therapeutic approach for the treatment of children with hemiplegia that typically results in significant improvement in the use of the impaired arm. A restraining splint or cast is used on a child s unaffected arm or hand in order to require the affected limb to be used for functional and play activities. Augmentative Communication improves a child s ability to communicate wants and needs through high-tech strategies such as DynaVox and the ipad, and low-tech strategies such as Picture Exchange Communication. Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is the leading cause of visual impairment in children in the United States. Easter Seals therapists have received training and continued mentorship with expert Dr. Christine Roman-Lantzy and are providing evaluations using the CVI Range. Following the evaluation, therapists will identify individualized intervention strategies proven successful for children with CVI.
