11 February 10, 2016 Wednesday, 5.30 p.m p.m. Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment Speaker: Dr.Sanjay Suri Dr. Sanjay Suri BDS, MDS, MOrth RCS (Edinburgh), DNB, DIBO, FRCDC Dr. Sunjay Suri is a tenured associate professor of orthodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto and staff orthodontist at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. He is also the director of the Center for Clinical Research and co-director of the Burlington Facial Growth Center at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. Beside these institutional assignments, Dr. Suri also practices part time in, Ontario. Dr. Suri has been providing orthodontic treatment to children, teens and adults since 1995, and has a wide spectrum of clinical interests within orthodontics that include interceptive orthodontics, growth modification, interdisciplinary and surgical orthodontics. He also has a lifetime goal to provide orthodontic treatment to children with congenial and acquired craniofacial deformities to the same high standard as he does for individuals that are not affected by these challenges. The scope and limits of interceptive orthodontic treatment in young children Attending to the dental needs of growing children is a wonderful and gratifying aspect of family practice. Diagnosing and intercepting developing malocclusions brings an opportunity of interest and progress beyond routine practice. Understanding the foundational principles that lay the framework of interventions is often the key difference between success and failure when providing such service. Practitioners also need to be cognizant of the scope and limits of interceptive treatment in order to be effective and efficient. This clinical lecture will illustrate key aspects of diagnosis and delivery of interceptive orthodontics in both simple, as well as more complicated situations, which can often be missed, especially if one tends to think that orthodontic treatment is indicated only after progressing to the permanent dentition. 12 March 10, 2016 Thursday, 5.30 p.m p.m. I am confused, Should I do RCT or extract and place an Implant? How do I decide? Speaker: Dr. Brain Jafine Dr. Brian Jafine BSc.DDS.D.Endo. Certified specialist in Endodontics Dr. Brian Jafine graduated with a Bachelor of Science and received his DDS degree from the U of T Faculty of Dentistry. He has been a practicing Endodontist for 33 years and received his post graduate degree in Endodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston MA. Dr. Jafine's emphasis is on patient comfort, as well as keeping up to date with the latest advancements in endodontic techniques, enabling him to provide the best quality care for his patients. He has a wide range of experience in different areas of Endodontics, from root canal treatments to microsurgery. His expertise is also frequently called upon by referring dentists for endodontic retreatment. Dr. Jafine is a member of the Canadian and Ontario Dental Associations, as well as the American Association of Endodontists. He is also a member and has served as president of three specialty organizations: the Canadian Academy of Endodontics, the Ontario Society of Endodontists, and the George Hare Endodontic Study Club. Dr. Jafine has taught at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry in both the graduate and undergraduate department for over 20 years. He also served as the Head of Dentistry at Peel Memorial Hospital for 5 years. With the advent of dental implants, dentists when faced with the management of root canal treated teeth with persistent lesions, increasingly favor replacement with dental implants over retreatment. This is a reflection of the perception that retreatment has a poor prognosis, although the prognosis of retreatment is on par with endodontic procedures. We will discuss concepts which are important in the decision making process to avoid unwarranted extractions. Discuss and identify factors to be considered in the decision process. Understand the survival rates for both modalities. Treatment plan based on biologic considerations, adjunctive procedures, tooth condition, cost and most importantly ethics. Present cases and discuss the rationale for treatment choices. RCDSO COURSE Category 2 Course Fee: $89 SADA MEMBERS: FREE 5.30p.m. 6.30p.m. Sharp
