1 Union County College Faculty Curriculum Committee Program Revision Form To all faculty members seeking to modify an existing program (including degree and certificate programs and options to existing programs) to the Curriculum Committee, please make sure the following items have been met before submitting your program revision proposal. For all revised programs, please submit an electronic copy of your proposal to the Curriculum Committee Chair, with a copy to the New Course/New Program Subcommittee Chair. All program revisions proposals must follow these guidelines. If these guidelines are not followed completely, your program revision proposal may be delayed in the acceptance process. Please refer to the Curriculum Committee website for all deadlines. Please Note: a) These guidelines for submitting program revision proposals to the New Course/New Program Subcommittee were taken from the Union County College Curriculum Committee By-laws found on the committee s web page. b) Faculty members who seek to revise an existing program must first consult with all departments (including Library and IT) affected by the proposed program revisions. c) A program revision proposal must be approved by the Department, the New Course/New Program Subcommittee, the Curriculum Committee, the Faculty at one of the scheduled Faculty meetings, and the VP for Academic Affairs. d) This form must be submitted to the New Course/New Program Subcommittee Chair with your program revisions proposal. e) All submissions must be in electronic format. ADDITION OF REQUIRED COURSE(S) Recommended Course Requirement: EET 270, Photovoltaic (PV) Systems The AAS Engineering Technology programs must periodically revamp their curriculum to stay current with emerging technologies and skill sets. This course, Photovoltaic (PV) Systems, will replace the Fiber Optics Communication course (EET 265) in the Electronics Electromechanical Engineering Technology (EEET) program. The course also adds a Green Technology/Sustainability technical elective to all engineering technology programs. E. DELETION OF REQUIRED COURSE(S) Recommended Course Deletion: EET 265 Introduction to Fiber Optic Communications The core content and skill set of EET 265 is no longer in great demand among employers. The courses EET 270 and EET 213 shared common topics as do the courses EET 211 and EET 204. Offering the courses in this sequence permits an active sharing of theory and application Part III ATTACHMENTS: X Department Approval. Provide an outline of the curriculum, semester by semester, including a list of the proposed courses and credits per course, including lecture and lab hours. Indicate the total number of credits in the degree program. X Program Review Grid. Not required for program name, catalog description, or recommended sequence changes. Provide a Program Review Grid for the applicable degree (see Curriculum Committee website) that follows the state requirements for General Education. The Program Review Grid must clearly show the courses offered with accompanying credit in each of the General Education Categories: Communications; the Social Sciences; Mathematics, Science, & Technology; and Humanities. 6 ELECTRONICS/ ELECTROMECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE FOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING SEE ENGINEERING ON PAGE 84 El ectronics/electromechanical Engineering T echnology students are prepared in the skills a nd understanding necessary to install and s ervice equipment which combines electronic, el ectrical and mechanical components. S pecial emphasis is placed on computers, c omputer peripherals, robotics, automated m anufacturing systems, fiber optic systems, a nd the operation of digital computers in a utomatic control systems. Considerable p ortions of the allotted laboratory hours are d evoted to learning and practicing tr oubleshooting, repair, and maintenance p rocedures of electromechanical and el ectronic equipment. S ee paragraph on Qualifications for A dmission to Degree Programs or desired h igh school background (see page 11). Upon successful completion of all program requirements, graduates will be able to: Analyze, predict the behavior of, and synthesize electromechanical, electrical and electronic systems and subsystems with minimal supervision. Develop strategies and implementations for the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of computers and computer peripherals; control systems; test, measurement, and instrumentation equipment; electromechanical assemblies and subassemblies. Interpret technical concepts to a nontechnical audience. Participate in a team project both as a leader and as a member. Evaluate, review, and interpret technical documents related to current technical advances and innovations. Analyze and interpret both technical and non-technical concepts orally and in written and electronic formats. Describe the community, societal, and ethical responsibilities and obligations associated with being awarded a college degree. AFTER UNION COUNTY COLLEGE Graduates have the option of entering a Bachelor of Science in Technology program or accepting positions as field service representatives or laboratory technicians with firms in the computer and electronic fields.
