2 Summary Mobile Mania as a Focal Point of Modern Enterprises Mobile is not only the new face of engagement it is fast becoming widely embraced as the focal point for business and communication. With the rising consumerization of IT coupled with business users embracing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), IT and line-of-business stakeholders are rapidly losing control of managing the availability, usage and performance of mobile devices and business applications. Yet, these teams are still tasked with ensuring optimal End User Experience across these mobile applications and devices. End Users want to work in the most efficient way whether they are sitting at their desktops, accessing a virtualized application from their personal laptop, or using their mobile devices. This anywhere, anytime expectation is redefining how people work. Recent industry stats further demonstrate that the mobile boom will continue to not only influence, but also drive how IT teams need to re-think the way they support and deliver optimal End User Experience: More than 80 percent of mobile devices within an organization are employeeowned According to Gartner, by 2019 more than 90 percent of organizations will have personal data on IT systems that they don t own or control Gartner predicts that through 2017, 90 percent of enterprises will have two or more mobile operating systems to support The research conducted in Aternity s 2013 Enterprise Mobility survey sheds light on the level of preparedness that enterprise IT organizations have as the mobile boom continues to fuel changes in user behavior and daily business interactions. Analysis During September 2013, Aternity surveyed more than 100 C-level executives, IT Directors, and IT Managers, with more than 20% of them representing Fortune 1000 enterprises, in order to better understand how the enterprise is handling the rise of mobility in the workplace. From BYOD trends through IT accountability and data security, respondents were very clear on one thing: 50% of them are not ready to manage mobile apps and devices in the workplace Aternity, Inc. 3 Findings Overview The top five findings of this research include: 1. Enterprises are witnessing an uptick in employee mobile device adoption with respondents indicating that 40% of their employees rely on mobile devices every day during the work week, with 37% of employees using their mobile devices to work for more than 60 minutes a day Aternity, Inc. 4 Findings Overview 2. The biggest factor holding back employees from using mobile devices more often for work-related activities is that core business applications are not yet mobile ready (66.7%). Corporate security policies and settings is the next big factor impacting more widespread mobile usage by employees, and it is also the top IT concern Aternity, Inc. 5 Findings Overview 3. There is almost a 50% split between employees using their own devices to access corporate business applications versus using company-issued devices for the same purpose. 4. Over 40% of respondents indicated that their IT organization is responsible for the performance of mobile business applications, regardless of whether the devices are company-issued or personal. 5. Fifty-five percent of respondents cited either the lack of ability to deliver optimal quality of service to employees using their own mobile devices as their biggest IT headache, or they admitted that the way they currently identify and manage performance issues on employees devices is an area that needs to be addressed Aternity, Inc. 6 Impact & Conclusion There is a growing responsibility within IT to manage and optimize the End User Experience of business applications running on mobile devices, whether personal or company issued. However, despite the mobile boom, a large portion of enterprises are not ready for corporate mobile management of their employees and their devices. As enterprises acquire, manage and integrate mobility into their existing infrastructure, they plan to evaluate Mobile Device Management (MDM) tools to protect proprietary data, while being equipped with centralized mobile IT management. More than 40% of enterprises are evolving into Mobile First Enterprises (from Report Finding #1), and they believe IT needs to own the mobile End User Experience regardless of the mobile device ownership and type being used by employees.
