Sulfur hexafluoride (SF 6 ) was used as a simulant fluid to simulate the behavior of hydrocarbon fuels at near thermodynamic critical state. * Flow visualization techniques including backlighting, sheet-lighting, and shadowgraphy were employed to obtain qualitative information of the spray. * A new breakup map for supercritical injection was proposed. 3

4 * A computer code solving the coupled species, energy equations, and an equation of state was developed. Jet Diffusion Flame Study, August 1990 May 1992 * Experimental and computational investigations on the low frequency flame oscillation of a nitrogendiluted propane jet diffusion flame. * A laser deflection technique was employed to determine the frequency of the flame oscillation. * Implemented a computer-aided data acquisition system using a multifunction I/O board and LabView software. * A parametric study on the gravitational and density variation effects was performed using an existing computer code. Time-dependent simulations of the oscillating flame were executed on IBM 3090 mainframe computer.
