1 Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic Internship Program Summer 2013 June 3 rd - August 9 th 2013 To apply for a position please send your 1. Resume 2. Please Note: Applications are reviewed and filled on a rolling basis and interviews are currently being conducted. If you wish to intern with us for the summer please send in your application now, don t miss out! Administration Program: 1 position Volunteer Coordinator Assistant Internship (1 position) Outline of tasks/duties: Individual will work with the volunteer coordinator to maintain volunteer database and referral program. Intern with help with volunteer initiatives, recruitment and assist volunteer coordinator with any issues relating to the positions: case management of pro bono referrals, volunteer time management, database entry, filing, client calls, volunteer recruitment. Time Commitment: June 3 rd -August 9 th, 20 hours a week Qualifications: Be willing to work in the office alongside volunteer coordinator during regular business hours. Detail oriented, independent initiative, motivation and creativity. Supervisor: Intern/volunteer will report to Erin Hougland, Volunteer Coordinator.

2 Consumer Justice Program: 3 positions Consumer Justice Intern (3 positions) We Stand for Justice Outline of tasks/duties: The Intern will work closely with the Managing Attorney at the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic and perform legal research in substantive areas of law that face low-income consumers, including: car repossessions, contract disputes, and bankruptcy. The intern will meet with clients, correspond with courts and opposing counsel on cases, draft pleadings and bankruptcy petitions, and perform basic legal research. Time commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th, 40 hours a week Qualifications: Current law student Supervision: Intern reports directly to Chris Purnell, Managing Attorney. Housing: Legal and IFPN Program: 8 positions Housing/Consumer Law Intern (4 positions) Outline of duties: Intern will be (1) researching landlord-tenant relations and the respective rights and obligations of both parties, (2) researching the laws and regulations relating to a variety of housing law issues, (3) researching the laws relating to a variety of other consumer-related issues, (4) drafting pleadings and memos related to these different cases and issues, and (5) interacting with clients to gather information about particular cases. Time commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th, Intern will be expected to work 40 hours per week. Qualifications: Applicant must have completed at least first year of law school with an interest in the areas of law listed above. School credit for internship is not available. Supervision: Intern reports directly to Brian Dunkel and Chase Haller, Staff Attorney.

3 Housing/Consumer Law Paralegal Intern (1 position) Outline of duties: Paralegal intern will: (1) Assist housing paralegal with client files (2) Prepare staff attorney s correspondence to clients and prospective clients (3) Assist staff and volunteer attorney(s) at legal intake sessions, and (4) address other administrative tasks that enhance the productivity of the housing attorneys and housing paralegal. Areas of Law: Real estate, landlord-tenant, mortgage foreclosure, bankruptcy, collections, consumer law, and employment law. Time commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th, Intern will be expected to work 40 hours per week. Qualifications: Must be a recent college graduate or currently enrolled in a college or university. Spanish-speaking ability is preferred. Supervision: Intern reports to Brian Dunkel, Staff Attorney. Housing Intake Intern (1 position) Outline of duties: Intern will be (1) working one on one with families facing foreclosure to assist them with filling out online applications, (2) assist clients with gathering documentation needed to obtain a work-out with their lender, (3) assist with weekly foreclosure prevention client workshops as needed, (4) inserting client data in online database and (5) working with the Housing Director on special projects as needed. Time commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th, Intern will be expected to work 20 hours per week. Qualifications: Applicant must have completed at least first year of college with an interest in the areas of social work, sociology or law. School credit for internship is not available. Supervision: Intern reports directly to Roger Rayburn, Housing Director.

4 Housing Counseling Intern (1 position) We Stand for Justice Outline of duties: Intern will be (1) working with Housing Counselors with families facing foreclosure to assist in negotiating workouts with their lender, (2) assist clients with gathering documentation needed to obtain a work-out with their lender, (3) assist with weekly foreclosure prevention client workshops as needed, (4) inserting client data in online database and (5) working with the Assistant Housing Director on special projects as needed. Time commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th, Intern will be expected to work 20 hours per week. Qualifications: Applicant must have completed at least first year of college with an interest in the areas of finance, social work, sociology or law. School credit for internship is not available. Supervision: Intern reports directly to Josh Case, Assistant Housing Director. Housing Outreach and Marketing Intern (1 position) Outline of duties: Intern will be working with the Housing Education and Outreach Coordinator to (1) assist in setting up and participating in outreach events, (2) assist with weekly foreclosure prevention client workshops, (3) assist clients with documents at weekly foreclosure prevention workshops, (4) inserting client data in online database and (5) working with the Housing Director on special projects as needed. Time commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th. Intern will be expected to work 20 hours per week. Qualifications: Applicant must have completed at least first year of college with an interest in the areas of marketing, social work, sociology or law. School credit for internship is not available. Supervision: Intern reports directly to Angie Simmons, Housing Education and Outreach Coordinator. Continued next page.

5 Immigration Law Program: 4 positions We Stand for Justice Immigration UVisa and VAWA Intern (2 positions) Outline of tasks/duties: Assist immigrants in filing U Visa and VAWA applications. Meet with clients to prepare their statements, call clients and write letters to obtain needed filing documentation. Prepare immigration applications using client information and documentation. Time commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th, 40 hours a week Qualifications: Current Law student. Must be able to work with emotional clients who are in difficult circumstances. Spanish speaking ability highly desired. Supervision: Intern reports directly to Immigration Staff Attorneys. Spanish Speaking Interpreter/Paralegal Internship (2 positions) Duties: Perform records and legal research, Drafting applications, petitions, letters, and affidavits. Communicate with clients regarding their cases. Review applications with clients before mailing them to Immigration. Also, Correspond with client advocates, prosecutors, police officers, and immigration officers Time Commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th, 40 hours a week Qualifications: Advanced Spanish speaking and writing ability. Able to communicate effectively in Spanish and English. Willing to work with attorneys, paralegals and clients to communicate issues regarding the client s case/client s needs. 6 Project GRACE Program Project GRACE Law Intern (2 positions) Outline of tasks/duties: Intern will work closely with the Project GRACE staff attorney at the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic and perform legal research in three main substantive legal areas that ex-offenders face when attempting to re-integrate into society: Family Law, Tax law/bankruptcy, and driver s license issues. The intern will meet with clients, correspond with courts/opposing counsel, draft pleadings, and perform basic legal research. Time commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th, 10 hours per week. Qualifications: Must be at least a 2L with an interest in the areas of law listed above. Eligible to become a Certified Legal Intern (preferred, not required). Spanish-speaking ability (preferred, not required). Please provide résumé as well as a writing sample. Supervision: Reports directly to Mitzi Wilson, Staff Attorney Help Desk Intern (1 position) Outline of tasks/duties: Help desk intern will assist with various task to help get a help-desk up and going. The interns may be working directly with self-represent individuals going through the process of clearing their criminal history. The intern will assist by creating forms and materials that will guide individuals through the court process. The intern may spend time at the help-desk directly assisting individuals with getting access to proper forms and directing them through the court process. An intern may also be asked to assist Project GRACE staff with creating online forms to support the process as it progresses. The intern will also assist with doing research around help-desk best practices. Time commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th, 10 hours per week Qualifications: Must be at least a 2L with an interest in the areas of law listed above. Technical background a plus. Detail and task oriented. Spanish-speaking ability is preferred, not required. 7 Tax Law and LITC (Low-income tax payer clinic) Program Tax Department Summer Intern (5 positions) Outline of tasks/duties: Interns will assist LITC staff attorneys on current tax cases. Such work with include legal research and writing, as well as client interviewing and document review. Interns will also assist with tax education and outreach in the community. Time commitment: June 3 rd August 9 th, To be negotiated Qualifications: Current law or business student, with foreign language skills given preference. (School credit for internship not available.) Supervision: Intern will report and work closely with Dee Dee Gowan and/or Veronique Beuoy.
