LUBAR SCHOOL OF BUSINESS FOR CHANGES TO REQUIREMENTS OF THE MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEGREE PROGRAM AND THE MASTER OF SCIENCE/MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION COORDINATED DEGREE PROGRAM I. Current Graduate School Bulletin Copy Note: Only sections that are changing have been included. Master of Business Administration MBA foundation coursework provides the basis for the theory and practice of business. This coursework is required for those entering the program without prior equivalent coursework and consists of 9 credits (4 courses); Bus Adm 700 Building Business Interfacing Skills (2 cr) Bus Adm 701 Business Mathematics (2 cr) Bus Adm 702 Business Statistics (2 cr) Bus Adm 703 Financial Accounting (3 cr) This coursework is waived for individuals who have completed equivalent coursework. Credits earned in these courses do not count toward the degree. Students also are assumed to have basic proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Credits and Courses The degree requirements for the Master of Business Administration degree are 36 or 39 credits without a career focused concentration, or credits with a career focused concentration. Students with a BBA degree and a major in accounting, finance, management, marketing, management information systems, or production/operations management will be waived from the 3-credit core course that corresponds to their major field of study. Students with a double undergraduate major may be waived from two core courses, but must substitute three elective credits to maintain the minimum 36 graduate credits. MBA Core - 24 or 27 credits Bus Mgmt 704 Accounting Analysis and Control Bus Mgmt 705 Corporate Finance Bus Mgmt 706 Managing in a Dynamic Environment Bus Mgmt 707 Information Technology for Competitive Advantage Bus Mgmt 708 Marketing Strategy: Concepts and Practice Bus Mgmt 709 Data Analysis for Management Applications Bus Mgmt 710 Economic Analysis for Managers Bus Mgmt 711 Competitive Operations Strategy Bus Mgmt 712 Strategic Management* *Integrating course Bus Mgmt 712 Strategic Management is the program capstone course. All other MBA core courses must be successfully completed prior to enrolling in Bus Mgmt 712.

The first route is to complete an approved 12 credit elective track or seek approval to customize an elective track. The first route requires a total of degree credits. The second option is to choose a career focused concentration, completion of which will be documented on their transcript. This route will require the completion of 15 elective credits increasing the total number of degree credits to See for additional details. MS MBA Coordinated Degree Program The Lubar School of Business offers a coordinated degree program - the MS.MBA - which combines the degree requirements of the MBA and MS-Information Technology Management concentration. The combination of MBA core courses and IT management courses prepares graduates for managerial positions in IT organizations or for IT-related functions within organizations. Prerequisite to the award of either degree in this program is the simultaneous award of its counterpart degree. MS.MBA Foundation and Background Preparation. This coursework may be waived for individuals who have completed an AACSB-accredited undergraduate business degree program. Other individual course exceptions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. These courses are: MBA Foundation courses: Bus Adm 700 Building Business Interfacing Skills (2 cr) Bus Adm 701 Business Mathematics (2 cr) Bus Adm 702 Business Statistics (2 cr) Bus Adm 703 Financial Accounting (3 cr) ITM Foundation Courses: Undergraduate degree in Information Technology or related field or Minimum three years of information technology experience or Bus Adm 335 Visual System Development (3cr), Bus Adm 434 Data Base Management Systems (3cr), And Bus Adm 436 Systems Analysis and Design (3cr) Advanced Standing. Students with a BBA degree will be granted advanced standing for the core courses that were their major fieldof study as an undergraduate. Total Program For the coordinated degree program, students will complete 85 degree credit hours. A student not completing the requirements for the coordinated degree program would need to complete all requirements of an individual program MBA or DNP in order to receive a degree. II. Proposed Change Summary 1. Foundation coursework: Bus Adm 700, 702, and 703 are removed; Bus Adm 701 remains. 2. The MBA degree program is revised from credits to 40 credits (46 if a Career- Focused concentration is completed). 3. The MBA Core moves to a two-tier system: Basic Core and Advanced Core. The purpose of the Basic Core (4 new courses) is to ensure students have the same academic preparation prior to enrollment in the Advanced Core. 4. BusMgmt 710 is removed. 5. Electives are decreased from 12 to 9 credits. 6. Graduation Requirement added to complete Boot Camp and Executive Development activities. 7. The MS MBA coordinated degree program increases from 54 to 55 credits; MBA credits increase from 24 to 28 credits; MS-IT coursework decreases from 30 to 27 credits; MS- IT Electives are reduced from 15 to 12 credits. MBA graduation requirements added. 8. MBA-DNP program change reflects MBA program changes; Business credits increase from 21 to 25 credits. Dually Applied Courses section is reduced from 21 to 18 credits and is modified to add a 6-cr Constrained Choice. Total program increases from 85 to 86 credits. MBA graduation requirements added.

Justification The Lubar School of Business Dean formed the MBA Program Task Force Fall The changes are a result of a comprehensive Fall Spring 2012 review of the MBA program, including extensive benchmark data. V. Proposed Graduate School Bulletin Copy Master of Business Administration MBA foundation coursework provides the basis for the theory and practice of business. The MBA Program requires Bus Adm 701, Business Mathematics (2 cr). This course is waived for individuals who earn an appropriate Quantitative sub-score on the GMAT or pass a proficiency exam. Bus Adm 701 does not count toward the degree. Students are also assumed to have basic proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Major Professor as Advisor Credits and Courses The degree requirements for the Master of Business Administration degree are 40 credits without a career focused concentration, or 46 credits with a career focused concentration. Students with a BBA degree and a major in accounting, finance, marketing, information technology management, or supply chain and operations management will be waived from the 3-credit core course that corresponds to their major field of study and substitute the course with an approved MBA elective. Students with a double undergraduate major may be waived from two core courses, but must substitute six elective credits to maintain the minimum 40 graduate credits. The revised requirements for the Master of Business Administration program and associated coordinated degree programs are approved as reflected in the proposed changes and Graduate School Bulletin copy described above. 2. Following appropriate administrative approval, the revised requirements are effective for students entering the program as of Fall Currently enrolled students have the option of following the old or the new requirements.
