5 Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) Fortinet s IPS technology, FortiGate, safeguards your school s network from known and unknown threats, protecting critical applications from external and internal attacks. 6 WAN Optimisation If your school is located on multiple sites or you manage a number of schools that share the same network, Wide Area Network (WAN) optimisation will accelerate your applications while ensuring multithread inspection of all network traffic. WAN optimisation eliminates unnecessary and malicious traffic, optimises legitimate traffic and reduces the amount of bandwidth required to transmit data between applications and servers. SSL-Encrypted Traffic Inspection Secure Sockets Layer Inspection intercepts encrypted traffic, forwarding it to Fortinet for analysis before routing it to its final destination. This prevents users from accessing restricted sites by hiding the web address from standard content filtering and prevents access to proxy servers. Data Loss Prevention DLP uses a sophisticated pattern-matching engine to identify and prevent the transfer of sensitive information outside of your network, even when applications encrypt their communications. As part of our partnership with Lightspeed Systems, we provide compliant web filtering based on a comprehensive education-specific database that gives your school fully customisable policies. The user-friendly interface integrates with both Windows Active Directory and Mac Open Directory giving you the freedom to tailor internet access by user, IP address, group, organisational unit or domain and you can expand or contract internet access for specific periods. Effective Mobile Filtering With the use of tablets rapidly becoming commonplace in schools, it s vital to ensure that children remain protected when using mobile devices on or off school premises. Lightspeed System s Mobile Filtering allows you to extend your existing filtering policies to your off-network devices. 10 Your Installation Dedicated Leased Line Schools Broadband recommends a dedicated leased line installation for all secondary schools. This will give you your very own fibre connection, which you won't share with anyone else, so it avoids any issues with contention. With a leased line you will have the same upload speed as download speed, up to 10GB. They also come with a service level agreement of % guaranteed uptime. With our previous filtering system, one of the issues was the bottle neck on the server it just couldn't handle the amount of requests coming through it. We've had no problems with the Lightspeed Systems Web Filter and it's handling over a thousand students on it without any issues. With Lightspeed, we've been given the scope to cater for peoples needs. So for the staff, we've made it flexible and they can teach their lesson using the right tools without having a blocked website and the sixth formers feel privileged to have more flexibility than a lower year student.
