9 Getting a Job in the Event Industry Our syllabus focuses on practical skills that will be used by the student in everyday life working within the industry. 10 Joanna Kerr - Terbell Course Director (London Office) Joanna is a well respected event professional who has been producing events for over 20 years. She has run conferences and events throughout Europe and launched and marketed products on UK and European road shows. Joanna has a broad spectrum of experience in all the disciplines of events and is a director of Terbell Event Courses UK with the specific task of overseeing and delivering our courses across the UK. Her lectures are very interactive and involve breaking the class down into small workgroups. Practical exercises prove theories and develop event skills. Joanna's experience is an invaluable asset to all, with a focus on building confidence and providing support to each and every student. As a Director, Joanna is an integral part of the Terbell organisation and remains instrumental in the creation and development of course content. 18 OUTCOME Students will comprehend the various media vehicles available and learn to construct a media plan. 19 OUTCOME On completion of this module the student should be able to write a risk assessment, method statement and event management plan. The class will be able to identify different risks and formulate a viable plan for a safe event. The students will also comprehend the law and how it effects different roles and individuals on an event site. This module has two parts. The second module in ERM ensures the class has workshopped crisis management, human behavior patterns, the role of security, risk groups and communication. Event Risk Management Content: 1. 24 OUTCOME Every module incorporates active discussion on these subjects. Evaluation and sustainability are key to the success of any event. Sustainability, Evaluation and Measurement Content: 1. ROI Methodology. 2. Achieve return on Investment or objectives and evaluate. 3. Produce events that achieve objectives and give value to the stakeholder. 4. Understand how to implement events in the most sustainable way possible. 23

25 Group Project Work 60% of Final marks Students are grouped and tasked to produce a pitch presentation (project) for an event based on a real life brief. The project is based on a single brief which is given to the students at the start of the course. Groups pitch their project ideas as if they were a real agency and compile a detailed leave behind. This is the most important element of the course, Students use the coursework to apply their learning s to real life scenarios, this is by far the best way to learn. The pitch presentation will make up 60% of the final marks. This will be assessed by an independent industry professional. 24

26 Open Book Exam 2.5 Hours Multiple Choice Short Essay Questions Examination 40% of Final marks The exam is open book and will last 2.5 hours. It is made up of two sections; the first is a combination of multiple choice & short questions, the second is short essay question based. The multiple choice / short question section is compulsory. Students may then choose three of the five short essay questions in section two. All questions are set by the individual trainers on the subjects on which they lecture. Students are allowed their course folder / laptop to reference material in the examination room Open Book Exam. The exam will be marked by an independent industry professional and is accredited by the ICM. ( The written exam will make up the remaining 40% of the marks. 25

27 Our lecture team work in the industry, therefore the information they provide is current and up to date. Resource Material & Support The information and lecture material has been written specifically for purpose by Adam Proto and Joanna Kerr along with the specialist lecturers based on real life knowledge experience and case studies. The course material has been cross referenced using industry sources and references to ensure the content is both accurate and up to date. Students are given comprehensive course notes in a PDF format at the end of each lecture in order to build up their own Event Management Library. The Terbell Intranet provides a library of material that supports the lecture material and also provides reference material for future use. 26

28 Volunteer opportunities and work experience is constantly updated on the Terbell Student Intranet. We work closely with the event industry. We have excellent relationships with event industry leaders who support our programs with internships and help shape the syllabus we lecture. Although, the part time courses do not offer an internship as part of the course, we do offer the opportunity to volunteer and be involved in some of the largest events and programs. 27
